Ukraine has it’s own currency, and is in the process of joining the EU.
It would be more accurate to say they they are planning to transition from the Hryvnia to the Euro.

The Hryvna is an unstable currency. I've predicted that Ukraine will continue to become closer economically and militarily with Poland. Ukraine might then adopt the Polish Zloty, which was its currency before.

Nobody wants to give Ukraine full EU membership and never did. It will be “on a pathway” to membership forever and will find Germany, Poland, and others erect stiff barriers to protect their own agriculture from an abundance of cheap Ukrainian grain, etc. Georgia found out how all that works and not thrilled.
This talk of pegging the Hryvna to the Euro instead of the dollar is just petty political theater.

Except, they will never be part of the EU.
