“He shot him in the back of the head … When you put a gun in somebody’s back of the head, there’s an intent to kill there,” Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker told the jury. The prosecutor has alleged that even though Lyoya was fighting for the Taser, that the fight was not worth the use of deadly force because Tasers are not lethal and did not pose a ‘dire threat’ to the officer and that there was ‘no evidence that Lyoya intended to harm’ Officer Schurr.
Key word here is fighting

BS! A perp FIGHTS with an officer of the law, they need shot.
To: artichokegrower
Violent perp incapacitates officer with the TASER. Guess what comes next?

Defense should ask the prosecution to demonstrate maintaining control of a sidearm when being zapped by a taser.

True. However, they are incapacitating. Taser someone who has a gun, and you’ve got his gun. I’m not reflectively a fan of the police. But this was a good shoot.

Fight with a cop and try to grab his weapon and you are going to get shot.
And Black criminals do not get some special privilege that exempts them from laws enforced by White police.
A Taser might not be lethal by itself, but a criminal standing over a cop disabled by a Taser is most definitely an imminent lethal threat.
This prosecution is totally illegitimate.

Sorry. Not reflectively but reflexively in my post #5.

Should have taken 10 minutes to acquit the cop

Sounds like the DA and judge are railroading the officer. Giving him the Chauvin treatment.

A very good idea.
I very much doubt the judge would allow anything so helpful to the defense.

Tasers are rarely lethal, but can be.
Why is the jury still deliberating?
A suspect can’t be allowed to put an officer’s life at realistic risk.
A suspect should peaceably await judicial processing.

Not even a minute. But the judge wants that verdict of guilty against the White guy. What’s the racial makeup of Grand Rapids?

Agree. Fortunately for the officer, it appears that the jury will fail to convict, thwarting the naked attempt of the woke Michigan prosecutor and judge to railroad him for simply doing his job.

Lyoya’s family is also suing Schurr for $100 million in a related civil case.
To: IYAS9YAS
I don’t know if it would be permissible, but that is a really good observation. Have sometime armed with a gun take a taser deployment and disarm them in front of the jury.
