Before you pay them or provide travel, you collect biometrics to identify them if they come back.

If they come back illegally, then you have some very clear and specific penalties. Maybe a year in El Salvadore prisons + restitution to the US for former expenses, or 2 years in El Salvadore prison if they can't pay the restitution.

I agree with both your comments, especially when coupled with the reinvigorated requirement for alien registration — THAT was (IMO) a master stroke.

Reagan did that in the '80s, only the amount was $500, and it went to the person who reported the alien, not the alien himself. And yes, that is exactly what happened. The border is more secure than it had been, so we can hope for a better outcome this time.

The CPB One app made it cheap and easy to barge into the US. They were precleared to enter anywhere. No need to stand in line at the port of entry.

As to their cost to get here? It likely was zero since you and I had our tax dollars siphoned off to USAID which then gave it to some NGO to pay for the ticket.

I liked my original terms 30 days to self deport, 30 to 60 days round them up and deport, 60 to 90 days shoot to kill and pay Americans to do the same.
