You're not wrong.

People do not always act in what is objectively their best economic interest. They often will cut off their nose to spite their face if they feel they've been insulted or demeaned. They'll burn down their own house just to ruin yours.

The Greenland thing might have been possible if we hadn't openly mocked Denmark and the Danes, and hadn't talked about Greenland as if the people were just incidental. At this point, they'd turn down an objectively better offer from the U.S. purely out of pride/spite.

But, Trump "trolling" other countries is just so much fun that it's worth losing out on Greenland.

Poilievre Who Lost 30 Pt Lead in 3 Months After He Started Bashing Trump

Oh good grief. Did he spend a fortune on political advisors for this loser of a strategy or did he come up with it all on his lonesome?

You are assuming the Leftist/Globalist candidate winning the election is a bad outcome for President Trump - it’s not.

President Trump wanted Canada to exit the USMECA trilateral trade agreement - he wanted two separate bilateral agreements - that outcome is now assured.

By taunting Trudeau about becoming the 51st US state, President Trump made ‘independence from the USA’ the central election issue.. the new prime minister has vowed to sever economic ties with the USA - exactly what Trump wanted.

Now he can deal separately with Canada and Mexico, who have very little in common when it comes to trade, reciprocity, border security, etc.

As for the new Prime Minister’s globalist bent.. it won’t matter - Canada is between a rock and a hard place. The USA holds all the cards, and now Trump can play them out without it complicating our negotiations with Mexico.

Bashing Trump was his only hope.

Canada is going to be a big problem.
*********
He was way too defensive. He would have done better by ignoring Trump and doubling down against the leftists ruining Canada.

Trump just rage baited Canada... liberals will punish Alberta.

Now Alberta will leave, then Saskatchewan.

Either way, the US wins.

Under Carney, Canada will soon capitulate to Trump on tariffs and everything else that matters. They have no choice. And then Canada's internal political and economic tensions are likely to prompt Alberta and Saskatchewan to secede and happily affiliate with the US in some form, with the rest of Canada struggling to remain viable. And, as you point out, China and the EU presently have a dangerous grip on Canada, so it is time to break up that alliance of weasels by breaking up Canada./p>

Conservative Poilievre... Lost 30 Pt Lead in 3 Months After He Started Bashing Trump.
IOW, he was the straw man in the phony single party state 'election' in Canada. Not the first time this has happened.

Provinces have no right to secede in Canada. It would require their constitution to be amended. Where does this idea come from that they have the right to just leave?

I know of no instances in which a right to secede is recognized in a constitution, but secessions nevertheless take place and are later recognized and made legal. As much as Canadians may like to think they are a unified nation, they are not, or at least not unified enough to easily withstand the stresses that they are about to suffer.

This specific issue has come before the Supreme Court of Canada and been resolved. The province whose secession was being considered at that time was obviously Quebec.

The Supreme Court held that if a province conducts a referendum that results in a vote for session, then the federal government of Canada is required to "negotiate". However, it is not required to agree to secession, and for secession to be legal, the other provinces would have to agree to permit secession.

Obviously, the provinces that don't like the U.S are not going to support weakening their own country and strengthening the U.S. by giving up provinces. Just not going to happen. Dime-store novel plots of provinces just leaving anyway are completely unrealistic financially and otherwise.

What happens if Alberta says that they are determined on secession and will be holding back all Canadian federal revenues? And that they are also negotiating with the US for protection from Ottawa and on the terms for becoming a US state once secession is accomplished? And that if force is used, Alberta will immediately destroy all rail and road connections from other parts of Canada?

It’s already underway.. Alberta is checking out of the abusive one way relationship with Ottawa.

The Liberals remind me of your classic narcissist, the narcissist always counts on nothing changing and the abused victim always coming back. I don’t think that’s the case here, Alberta has nothing to lose and everything to gain by becoming independent or joining the USA.
