GOP SEN. RAND PAUL HAS VOTES TO BLOCK TRUMP'S TARIFFS
Man Raju (CNN) ^ | April 27 | Man Raju

"GOP Sen. Rand Paul says he expects to have enough votes in Senate to pass resolution to effectively block Trump’s tariffs. But Paul, who expects the vote Wednesday, attacked Speaker Johnson’s move to block such resolutions as “dishonesty.”"

***

The background to this, via Politico:

The White House warned that Trump will veto a bipartisan Senate resolution that would terminate his sweeping global “Liberation Day” tariffs.

The statement of administration policy from the Office of Management and Budget, sent to congressional offices Monday, comes ahead of an expected vote this week forced by several Democrats led by Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

His Father and most Libertarians, would agree that taxation should be not on the backs of earners, but using tariffs to protect manufacturing. I can hardly understand the switch in Rands thinking.

The only things that are certain in life are death and taxes. The government is going to make money somehow. Taxing imports, what a tariff is, is far less invasive into ordinary citizens' privacy than income taxes, which gets into everyone 's private business. Given the choice between tariffs and income taxes, I prefer the tariffs. Rand Paul was good resisting the COVID lockdowns, but not so much the heart of the MAGA agenda.

“”Please cut out the language it’s not called for. Rand is a patriot””

Well then... maybe he needs to start acting like a patriot... instead of grand-standing and siding with the radical leftist Democrats that are constantly seeking to destroy us from within. You really won’t like the language that “I” apply to people that do that.

There is ONLY one party in America and Trump is not a member.

REPUBLICANS are LOSERS.

Actually some are more than losers, they are traitors like Sessions, Pence and Barr.

Rand Paul is a LOSER and always will be.

I have NEVER been affiliated with the Republican Party nor the Democrat Party and I would be ashamed to be affiliated with either although I’m proud to say I NEVER voted for a Democrat in a national nor state election.

McConnell and Ryan SABOTAGED the wall in Trump’s first term.

Now another DOOFUS from Kentucky is mucking up Trump’s agenda in his second term.

What is with Kentucky, McConnell, Paul, and Massie can’t they just put their egos aside and follow Trump’s lead for once.

The Democrats are out to destroy this Republic and they must destroy Trump and his agenda to accomplish their purpose.

But it always seems their is some Republican clown like Rand Paul more than willing to give aid and comfort to Trump’s MORTAL enemies.

Libertarians are always a little nutty.

Libertarians can't agree on the proper limits of government power. Some want to ban stop signs. Others want to end all tariffs, but keep the income tax.

Not all patriots are cunning enough to help the cause in the political theatre. This guy in all these years will lead to his first success and it will be a resolution that will serve to weaken the President that represents his party in international negotiations. That is an unbelievable level of stupidity all wrapped up in one play.

I recall hearing something once about head and forepoints of contact.
Something about removing heads from same.
I suggest that Rand do so quickly.

you’re correct in that he has never had much luck in passing anything until this

Ironic.

BUT there must be 5-6 other GOPers to vote to pass this?

The timing of this bill is just unfortunate....

The message has already gone from “here’s how much you all have been ‘ripping us off’ in the form of trade deficits” – with a shocking chart of high double-digit tariff rates on Liberation Day – to “let’s make a deal.”

What happens next remains to be seen, but the stock market has responded favorably. After Trump’s Liberation Day announcement on April 2, the S&P 500 fell 19% from its previous all-time high on February 19 (and went into bear market territory on an intraday basis). But it’s up 10% since April 8.

Trump announcing the “90-day pause” on “reciprocal” tariffs on April 9 sparked a change in sentiment, which has been followed by ideas of making trade deals with China (though that seems a distant outcome right now), India, Japan, and South Korea.

And what might be coming next could make for some “headline tailwinds,” if all goes according to the White House’s plans.

Congress should put this Rand Paul initiative on the shelf for now and PRIORITIZE the tax cuts before Labor day.

Where was he when the demo-commies were stuffing the ideologs onto court benches? Where was he when the demo-commies were flying in illegals in the dead of night by the hundreds of thousands? Why are these clowns only tough when a good president is in office?
