They were PASSENGERS. The flight was automated. Claiming you’re an astronaut by flying on Blue Origin is like flying on an airliner and then claiming you’re a commercial pilot.

While I agree it’s a silly publicity stunt. I believe the real purpose was to begin a trend to normalize space travel as a safe, fun and possibly recreational.
I’m sure all the private companies involved in space flight are considering ways to expand commercialization of space flight beyond scientific and industrial use.
Sending this “crew” up supports the idea that anyone can do it.

While I agree that it was a stupid publicity stunt, I would give them some credit for courage. Space flight is not totally without risk.
Maybe not as dangerous as riding the subway in New York City, but not entirely without risk.
