The number of school district employees receiving a total compensation of more than $200,000 have more than doubled since 2019, according to new salary data posted today at SeeThroughNY.net, the Empire Center’s transparency website.
A total of 75,056 school district employees received six figure compensation – representing nearly one-third (31.3%) of NYSTRS educators. Out of these, 81 educators received more than $300,000, and 1,688 received more than $200,000.
Among the upstate regions, Timothy Backus, who recently retired as the Deputy Superintendent at South Colonie Central School District, topped the list with a total pay of $443,517.

95k a year for 9 months ain't so bad.
“The number of school district employees...”
And then there’s the Deputy Superintendent of a school district pulling down more than the President of the United States. And while he works at a school, I doubt he does much ‘educating’.
Public schools have lots and lots of "middle management" as well as high paid teachers. Technically they are in "education".
‘Employees’
Not ‘teachers’. A lot of administrators perhaps
AND——THE KIDS CANNOT READ OR WRITE CURSIVE OR DO MATH !!!!!
The records reflect pay during the fiscal year ending June 30 for teachers, administrators and other members of the state Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS) and March 31 for employees belonging to the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS).
Pay goes up, results go down. Tell where this happens anywhere but in government...
And they’re worth every penny!
Just consider the excellent product they’re turning out.
Unions are renowned for this inverse relationship.
NY State is a lot like the old East Germany
Cold, snowy, marxist, controlled elsewhere, people leaving for the West, the only decent jobs are connected to the state and the political regime, while everyone else is falling behind.
The term “teacher” has been replaced with “educator.” This allows overpaid / underworked administrators to be lumped in with classroom instructors — teachers — in media reporting. In this case, you can be sure every damn one of the “educators” getting these huge salaries are educational bureaucrats. In fact you can bet most of them have never spent a day in the classroom.

But… but… but… teachers are incredibly underpaid and do it only because of their dedication and deep concern for the students. /sarc
And all that money goes to NEA in union fees which goes back into the demoncRATS coffers.
Yep, public schools are a cancer. I can’t believe we have not seen any reforms.
