That goes for University endowments too. Use it or lose it.
I don’t do “heart pull” charities. They make me itch. Samaritans Purse gets most of the money even though they have a pretty high overhead. It’s understandable when you are dealing with so many countries.
In some regards scams like this are perfectly legal. It sucks, but not against the law in many cases.

The Combined Federal Campaign used to issue a pamphlet with every recipient listed therein which identified the percentage of gross income was spent on administrative fees. I remember declining to donate to a well known veterans support organization because of excessive administration costs.
