Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., is planning to introduce legislation Monday that would restrict President Donald Trump's tariffs, as GOP opposition grows against the president's signature economic policy—though House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is reportedly so far telling lawmakers to back the president.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., asked for House lawmakers to receive a briefing on the tariffs because they haven’t been looped in on what the president’s plan is for them, the Journal and Punchbowl News report, with Johnson reportedly saying he’d speak with Trump and get someone to brief lawmakers.
Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on nearly all countries last week that have wreaked havoc in the stock market and spurred economists to warn of a possible recession, leading even some Republican lawmakers to speak out against the policy and the tariffs’ possible impacts on their constituents.
Seven Republican senators have so far signed on as co-sponsors of a Senate bill that would require the White House to get congressional approval to impose tariffs, with Bacon telling CBS News he’ll introduce a companion bill in the House on Monday.
It’s so far unlikely that the legislation will actually pass Congress—let alone get a majority large enough to overrule Trump if he vetoes it—though Bacon said he thinks, “If we continue to see the stock market go a certain direction, or if we see inflation or unemployment shift in a bad way, I think then this bill becomes a very viable bill.”

Thanks for this update and post!
Bacon needs to be cooked.
Somewhat amazing that he got re-elected from the surprisingly
lib/commie Omahaha area.
I wouldn’t be surprised if POTUS is not setting them all up for primaries... Pastoring POS’S...
“Bacon needs to be cooked.”
Not sure it is Bacon any more than the republican party as a whole. They do not know what winning is and how to continue what they are doing being unable to recognize it is working. They’re morons and many are just plain criminal to the American People.

That dog don’t hunt.
Nobody cares.
Pass the bill, cut spending and STFU. Nobody wants to hear anything else from congress. When you are siding with a party at 26% approval, you are too stupid to keep your job.
The Senate passed their resolution trying to block Trump’s Canadian tariffs with globalist Rand Paul’s support. Go ahead, send President Trump a bill and watch how quickly he vetoes it and tells them to stuff it.
Trump will veto, and in a month or two when he achieves total victory for the U.S., he can pick and choose which spinless traitors he’s going to help primary out ...
Alright! What is in it for these Republicons? Something they aren’t telling.
You are not wrong.
Bacon is but a long time example of failure in electing [over and over] representatives.
I think “none of the above” needs to be on all ballots for every office.
YMMV
Tariff protection schemes for sale. RINO’s are having a sale.
Don Bacon - biggest %@#$ing RINO A-HOLE Nebraska ever elected. Absolute sh*t-4-brainsback-stabbing clown who votes with the Left nearly 100 percent of the time. If the NE-GOP does not get rid of this effing loser on the next cycle, I’m done with the NE-GOP.
What you said! Amen
Something I learned a LONG time ago about politicians... and it seems those on the “R” side of the isle suffer worse from this condition: SPINELESS.
HARD decisions are frequently never made in hopes of “someone else” doing it and then suffering any blame...
Well that has gotten us to our $30 Trillion unsustainable hole that has ruined the $US - creating inflation and false “prosperity”.
It took a non-politician President to pull the proverbial trigger to tear down America’s fiscal “Tower of Babel” - in an effort to save this nation.
Are Tariffs the right tool? I don’t know - maybe. But SOMETHING had to be done - and ANY medicine needed (more like high-power chemotherapy) was going to make the nation feel sick - it was going to cause some pain. But FAR less pain than the inevitable fiscal disaster (and a very real threat of utter collapse) laying way too close ahead.
Sadly - when the “going gets tough” the spineless want to hide under a rock.
I have zero doubts many Republican Reps are having their email and phones blown up by mad (and extremely short-sighted and selfish) folks - especially retirees and near-retirees - wringing their hands and demanding they put an end to “Trump’s madness”. What they don’t understand - if our fiscal train doesn’t get put back on the proper rails - the cliff it is currently heading towards will destroy EVERYTHING they are relying on - the current large hit to the markets will be little more than a microscopic drop to the ocean of despair that will come.
Don’t quit the radiation and cancer treatment... or the surgery to remove lethal financial tumors before the “doctors” are finished. Then give time to heal...
Alas - people have become so entitled and selfish - and have ZERO grasp of how stock markets work (and obviously have a very short memory). They want their IRA account overflowing with cash - and they, like the Democrats that take advantage of that, don’t’ really care WHERE “their money comes from”...
In fact - I am convinced that - if given the option - either to get a 25%+ raise in Social Security benefits, if it meant that the system is bankrupt in 10-15 years and no-one after 2035 or 2040 would collect a dime... OR keep your current benefits and enable the system to last another 40-50 years... that most current retirees would opt to bankrupt the system to get more $ today...
And they are on BOTH sides of the political isle.
And they are the loudest when it comes to having ZERO patience with big changes and short-term pain.
I sincerely believe they were not elected, they were put up, paid for or paid, to get elected and the machine software did the rest.... You don’t believe me? Look at all of the Democratic women, you cannot tell me that ANY man would vote for anybody that looks as ugly as that group of women... The old saying is that beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone.
Wall Street bankers own these SOB’s - and likely have the goods on their insider trading. They are all dirty to one degree or another. Bacon needs to get his sniveling ass fried. If you’ve never met this midget rump swab, I have - several times unfortunately - and he’s a slimy weasel.
