Thousands of federal workers are newly reeligible for a Trump administration offer paying them to quit as agencies prepare to shed up to half of their staffs, documents reviewed by The Washington Post show.
The deal, extended across at least six agencies in recent days, resurrects an option to resign now and be paid through September.
Trump officials said the offer represented a life raft for workers who found themselves in positions the administration deemed nonessential in its quest to cut spending and tame a mounting national deficit.
“We could have just fired people and not given them an off-ramp,” White House principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields said in an interview. “For all of this talk about disruption, we are affording people an off-ramp that no other private- or public-sector job would.”
Several federal workers who decided against the first offer said in interviews Tuesday that they were considering taking the second one — citing concerns about looming layoffs, the daily stress of working for the administration and improvements to a process.

They might go for it this time around. Considering that there is now no cause to doubt that the federal workforce will, in fact, be shrunk. One way, or another.
It’s a new day.
This proves it. While the insubordinate subversive deepstate argues that it serves the public and is open to working with the administration [they work for their elected administration, but let's look past this minor detail of insubordination] to make improvements, in fact they find any such talk stressful. Since when is working with your boss to make workflow to serve the public stressful?
When I was RIF’d last October I got exactly 3 weeks severance pay. My health benefits were ended immediately. I went from earning $135,000 a year to $436 a week in unemployment.
There were no performance issues. In fact they took great care to tell me what a great job I’d done and wrote me a nice letter of recommendation. “It’s the economy.” they said.
So pardon me if I have exactly ZERO sympathy for these Federal workers.

Mostly ready to retire and the employable. The dregs hang on until the end.
I’m getting laid off soon, it’s hard to feel any sympathy for federal workers when they are treated so generously.
Take the buyout, invest the money in Newsmax stock- (actuslly its alittle late for that- shou,d invested right as they went public)
Do federal workers take their retirement anytime they quit?

The administration is using classic “training” techniques.
Keep switching between carrots and sticks.
The federal employees are kinda slow but they are beginning to get the message.
That is how you make all the renegade judges irrelevant.
As with all things federal the answer is very complicated—and depends on a bunch of details.
In most cases the retirement benefits are deferred until they are eligible to receive them.
However there are “buyback” provisions that make it possible for some employees to get them earlier.
