The only purpose it served was to make Rand Paul look very, very foolish. 99% of the time Paul is right on. It’s hard for me to explain. He should have kept his mouth shut on this one.

Rand Paul is rarely ‘right on’! He is an attention whore just like that punk Massie ... neither of them are in office for the ‘good; of country ... they are hookers for the media ...

One would think that Rand would have some intellect regarding the affect of Fentanyl on the ‘common’ creature .... but Nooooo Rand got allll hot and bothered for his whiskey brewers and decided he would show his ignorant back side ...

Did you see Trumps list of the tariffs the rest of the world has been screwing us with? It’s an outrage!

Rand has shown himself to be a globalist who desires a subservient and docile USA.

The Senate’s 51-48 vote to pass the measure does not immediately ‘stop’ the tariffs from going into effect.

For the tariffs to be terminated, the following must happen:

The House of Representatives must also pass the same measure.

President Trump must sign the bill into law, or Congress must override a potential veto by Trump with a two-thirds majority in both the Senate and the House.

I’m just coming into this tonight-is that true, that this was a wholly ceremonial vote?

He’s dancing to a slightly different tune as of an hour ago. I guess it’s no longer “taxation without representation”. Now it’s all about politics.

“When McKinley most famously put tariffs on in 1890, they lost 50% of their seats… In the early 1930s, we lost the house and senate for 60 years. So not only bad economically, they are bad politically.”

Never would I have expected him to jump on the Screw American Workers Globalist Bandwagon.

The United States Revenue Cutter Service was established by an Act of Congress (1 Stat. 175) on 4 August 1790 as the Revenue-Marine at the recommendation of the nation’s first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton.

The federal government body was initially created to serve as an armed customs enforcement service.

At just 32 years old, Alexander Hamilton was faced with a difficult situation.

The American Founding Father was responsible for the United States’ entire treasury during difficult financial times—a result of America’s long fight for liberty.

Keenly aware of the need to protect the young nation’s customs revenue, maintain safe coastal waters, and fight back against illegal trading and piracy, Hamilton had a big job ahead of him. But he knew that achieving these goals would be an important step toward establishing a firm financial foothold.

Hamilton set forth to establish a service that would patrol the nation’s coastal waters,

.....
.. protecting an important source of revenue: import tariffs. ....
...

He presented this idea to Congress in a bill described as “An act to regulate the collection of the duties imposed by law on the tonnage of ships or vessels, and on goods, wares, and merchandise imported into the United States.” The bill went on to lay out many of the plan’s details, including ship size (large enough to avoid any trouble navigating the coastal waters, even in winter), and the need to keep the project economical amidst the financial crisis.

In 1790, his plan was made a reality, and the Revenue Cutter Service (Revenue Marine) was born. It has served in one form or another ever since.

Although officially part of the Treasury organization, the Revenue Cutter Service was always considered part of the military. Revenue cutters became known for their versatility, proving themselves time and time again—while they may have been established to enforce import duties, they made their name fighting pirates and battling for their country in almost every war.

Through it all, they were known for their namesake vessel: the cutter. Designed for speed instead of capacity, a cutter was able to travel into shallow water, making it ideal for patrolling the coastline.

When you get clumped in with exclusive Swamp R team Collins,Murkowski and McConnell exclusively, you’re the same Swamp scum..

I dunno. Rand Paul voted for the measure on principle. The other three, because they hate Trump.

dealing an embarrassing blow to Trump.

I think they may have damaged themselves even more, to be quite honest.

“tariffs are taxation without representation”

More accurately, at the end of the day, “libertarian” Rand Paul is just another shill for his corporate donors.

Rand Paul is just a talker. He is clueless on how to achieve his lofty goals. He should work for a think tank.

The United States income tax was first enacted during the Civil War in 1861 to help pay for war expenses. It levied a 3 percent tax on incomes between $600 and $10,000 and a 5 percent tax on incomes of more than $10,000.

The income tax was later revived in 1894 with the Wilson Tariff Act, which imposed a 2 percent tax on those earning $4,000 or more a year.

However, this new income tax was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1895.

The Sixteenth Amendment, ratified in 1913, allowed Congress to levy an income tax on individuals and entities without apportioning the burden among the states.

1790 were tariffs, just for clarification. Income taxes were applied for short term period as needed, until they made income taxation permanent in 1913.

Thus, tariffs were the main income generated to run the U.S. government. But because they are now being used by Trump they are bad. Could it be that a government that has less money to operate on becomes less susceptible to corruption & theft of the citizens wealth creation? Was income taxation created to increase government to make government grow and provide it with more money in order to make corruption possible?

I think so.

It was the original: "money for nothin' and chicks for free." scheme.
