Only time I ever heard of Tonga was in an episode of the old TV show Adventures Of Paradise .
IN Paradise .
“A strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake”
How is this different from a weak 7.1 mag. erfquake?

It’s one magnitude of adjective greater.
Global warming strikes again!
So..you never heard of that volcano that erupted in Jan 22 that has effected weather worldwide?
Wow. Two 7’s in a couple of days isn’t ’normal.’
Actually, it’s not unusual at all. I noticed for years that many times when there is a very strong earthquake along or near the “ring of fire”, one or more other strong earthquakes soon follow somewhere else along it. So-called “scientists” dismissed this idea until relatively recently, when they’ve done a 180 and now admit that this does happen. A strong earthquake can even trigger another strong one on the opposite side of the planet.

><
Because there are no weak 7.1 mag. earthquakes unless a 7.1 is compared to a 7.2. then it would be weaker.
It was predicted by Space Weather News (S0), 3/21/25.
I remember an article I read said that quakes below 7.5 don’t make significant (big) tsunamis, unless they happen to trigger a major landslide into the ocean
There’s a lot of earthquakes in Tonga but the size is very unusual.
Just now a 6.1
I think I felt that coronal hole stream. Brutal.
VERY FIRST sentence of the AP article…..
“A strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit near Tonga, prompting an initial tsunami warning that was later lifted for the Pacific island country.”
“…later lifted….”
So why bother reading the typical AP drivel beyond that?
Similar to news reports of a senseless killing in one part of town. As apposed to a more sensible killing in another part of town.
The timing of the Friday Myanmar quake, although inevitable, was possibly influenced by a strong earthquake on the exact opposite side of the globe on Monday: Earthquake of magnitude 5.5 strikes near coast of central Chile, GFZ says
