US President Donald Trump announced that Boeing has been awarded the contract to produce the US Air Force’s next-generation fighter jet, the F-47. The aircraft, classified as a sixth-generation fighter, is expected to be the most advanced fighter jet ever developed.

"I'm thrilled to announce that, at my direction, the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world's first sixth-generation fighter jet, and nothing in the world comes close to it," Trump said at the White House.

.... Snip....

Advanced capabilities and strategic impact The F-47 incorporates advanced stealth technology, artificial intelligence systems, and autonomous command and control capabilities. It is expected to achieve supersonic speeds without the use of an afterburner, allowing for extended and quieter operations in contested airspace. The aircraft will also feature high-precision weapons, hypersonic missile capabilities, aerial refueling, and next-generation electronic warfare systems.

It's futuristic looking. It doesn't have a tail.

Trump even mentioned that he has hope the F-47 could enter series production and be fielded before the end of its mandate as President, which would happen in 2029. While this might seem ambitious, the U.S. Air Force already planned to have the aircraft in service in the 2030s.

Futuristic??? That is old design.

From Wikipedia:

The Northrop YB-49 was an American prototype jet-powered heavy bomber developed by Northrop Corporation shortly after World War II for service with the United States Air Force.[1] The YB-49 featured a flying wing design and was a turbojet-powered development of the earlier, piston-engined Northrop XB-35 and YB-35.

We just returned from an afternoon Airshow: All of these planes were flying: P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, several B-24s, C-17 Globemaster, C-130 Hercules, F-16s, F-18s, The Blue Angels, and the F-35. Patriots and President Trump supporters all over the place. Families and more families, kids galore, and NOT ONE pink haired wacko.

God Bless and keep safe our sailors, soldiers, airmen, marines and coast guard.

We should be spending the money on drones, drone research and anti drone counter measures.

Yep. UAVs. That's where the future is at.

It's time to just go full Skynet.

The F-47 has been around for a long time. Originally the P-47, it was redesignated the F-47 in 1948.

This plane is almost certain to have the *autonomous* ability to control multiple drones, and those drones themselves will have autonomous abilities of their own.

Israelis are very far down this road if the US isn’t.

Although it will be well armed and very stealthy, this plane appears to be more of a highly mobile / flying ops center than anything else.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e_EXmVUJCM

(Interview of Aviation Week’s Steve Trimble. Discussion of the plane being manned starts around 10:25.))

Of course, the plane is not 100% evolved yet, and opinions vary a bit!
