Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent ripped into former Vice President Mike Pence during a recent interview. While outlining President Donald J. Trump’s tariff plan, Bessent hit back at Pence’s criticisms of using the trade levies.
Bessent detailed President Trump’s tariff strategy, aiming to motivate businesses to relocate manufacturing to the United States: “Mike Pence came out and said, ‘Secretary Bessent doesn’t know what he’s talking about.’ I would tell the former vice president that ‘let them eat flat screens’ is not an economic policy,’” Bessent said.
“People want to have good jobs, they want to own a home, they want to have dignity, they want to enjoy work, they want their communities to be sound, and we want affordability, but bringing in a bunch of baubles and trinkets to satisfy people who are displaced isn’t the American dream,” he insisted.
Conducted at the Treasury Department, the interview delved into the reasons behind Trump’s tariffs. Bessent compared Trump’s tactics to “tough love,” crediting them for prompting Germany to increase its military spending, for instance. He also argued that tariffs are a means to counteract the decline in U.S. manufacturing jobs, which he attributes to the “China shock” of 2004.
Bessent explained that Trump’s tariff policy offers a financial advantage for companies relocating production to the U.S., potentially boosting government revenue. He highlighted the need for permanent tax cuts, deregulation, and affordable energy as crucial components for revitalizing American manufacturing.
Bessent noted an increased interest from international investors in the U.S. market since Trump’s election, viewing it as an attractive environment for business. So far, President Trump has announced or enacted tariffs on goods from China, Canada, Mexico, the European Union, and several others.
Judas Pence mouths the globalist talking points well.
I remember when we used to make things.

A society that produces things will be a happier society.
if people can have stable respectable blue-brown-grey collar jobs and live a respectable lifestyle — then yeah, those people will be more content and thus happier.
If we can bring back solid free-market manufacturing ideals to America again, then we’ll be good to go for 2028
Pence was an unskilled unsuccessful private attorney, then a talk show host and was able to use that to get his name recognizable enough to get elected office.
He is utterly unqualified to speak on economics.
Trump has some amazing people in his administration. Scott Bessent is an Yale-educated, mega successful hedge fund operator, and billionaire, who who yet advocates for middle-class Americans, fair trade, and against the interests of the globalists. Remarkable.
Pence was Trump’s George HW Bush. Reagan needed Bush to keep the Establishment Republicans on his side, Trump needed Pence for the same reason in 2016. The 2020 steal fortuitously freed Trump from the corrupt bargain that short circuited Reagan’s legacy when deep state creature Bush succeeded him. With Vance on deck, MAGA has a good chance of becoming a long lasting reform movement, and not just a pause in Obama’s fundamental transformation of the US into a Soviet style collectivist oligarchy.
He needs to crawl back into his closet peace’s 15 minutes are long over.
I remember when Free Republic thought Pence was a great guy
Pence was a great guy.......until he wasn’t.
Bessent is freaking amazing and spot on.
“Let them eat flat screens is not good economic policy”
Giving people a “few baubles” to buy is not enough
Brilliant. Who could logically — or morally — disagree?
We also thought Bush was a great guy…….until he wasn’t!!! Trump has AWAKENED a sleeping giant with truth and straight talk!! He is a once in a lifetime POTUS!!!
Pence is almost to be pitied. He threw away his career to stand up for the Democrats on Jan. 6.
Honestly, I could forgive Pence for 1/6 if that were his only sin. If, on that day, he legitimately believed that his only role was as rubber stamp, well, so be it. I can accept a man following his conscience. What I can’t accept is his continuing perfidy and unrelenting spitballing ever since. The man has become the new Mitt Romney, a bitter loser on the outside struggling to grasp at relevance by knocking anything and everything that Donald Trump does. Pence has become a tiresome, ungrateful bore. He and the Missus need to retire from politics. They should find some nice, small Bible-based college where Mike can get a job as chancellor or president but still keep up the holier-than-thou shtick he loves so much.
While I agree with most of what you have posted, the whole bible college thing is wrong.
He is not a Christian.
His actions tell on him. He needs to repent, and then working a Bible college will be the right thing for him.
This Hoosier tried to warn you. When, as Governor, he ran away from the State “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” the first time the alphabet people howled I knew he was not to be trusted.
Hear, Hear!!
Honestly, I could forgive Pence for 1/6 if that were his only sin.
++++++++++
Pence should have used the Auto-Pen on J6 and STFU. He’d be in a better place right now. But the media likes him now, right? They do like him, right? Please tell me they like him.
Was it worth it, Mikey?
