Stop the Radical Abortion Agenda in Wisconsin, Vote for Brad Schimel

The Wisconsin Supreme Court election on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 is drawing national attention. The race will provide the first statewide test of voter sentiment since Donald Trump narrowly carried the crucial battleground (0.86% margin of victory) in November. The outcome could determine the fate of current and future protections for unborn babies and their mothers in the state. It could also pave the way for a new gerrymandered Congressional map that disadvantages pro-life incumbents and helps pro-abortion Democrats regain the U.S. House majority. In short, there is a lot at stake.

But don’t just take my word for it. According to EMILY’s List, the pro-abortion mega-fundraiser that spent more than $86 million dollars to influence the 2024 elections, “the battle for reproductive freedom (abortion) will be fought and won in elections like this one.”

As it stands, the Wisconsin Supreme Court is evenly split between pro-life and pro-abortion justices. That means the seat up for grabs on April 1st is not only an open seat, but the driver’s seat. The winner of the upcoming election will have a major impact on the direction of the state’s highest court.

In an email to supporters, EMILY’s List was upfront about the stakes, stating, “Whoever fills the vacant seat will determine whether the Court’s majority is pro-choice or anti-choice.” (Note: When abortion advocates say “anti-choice,” they mean anyone who is not on board with unlimited abortion for any reason at any point in pregnancy.)

Pro-abortion groups like EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, and Reproductive Freedom for All (previously known as NARAL) have thrown their support behind Susan Crawford, a pro-abortion Circuit Court Judge. Her long record of abortion advocacy has been front and center in the campaign. As a private attorney, Crawford represented Planned Parenthood in a case challenging a state pro-life law. She makes no secret of wanting to recognize a “constitutional right to abortion,” a move which would jeopardize existing protective measures for unborn babies and their mothers and make enacting meaningful new protections extremely difficult.

“Wisconsin’s next state Supreme Court justice may be a make-or-break vote to decide whether or not an abortion ban will cut off access to care…We need Judge Crawford who recognizes that abortion is a fundamental right,” said Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju in her group’s endorsement.

Running against Crawford is Brad Schimel, a Waukesha County judge and former state attorney general, who has a proven record of defending pro-life legislation. He served as attorney general under pro-life Governor Scott Walker. If elected, Schimel pledges to uphold the rule of law and stop judicial overreach by the Court. He is committed to interpreting the Constitution as written. In contrast to Crawford, Schimel has been quoted as saying, “There is not a constitutional right to abortion in our state constitution.”

Elections have consequences, and in this instance, those consequences could be felt right away. The Wisconsin Supreme Court is expected to rule on major abortion-related cases in its current term, including an original action brought forward by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin asking the court to interpret if there is a “right to abortion” in the state constitution.

In addition, Wisconsin Democrats have openly advocated a legal challenge to the state’s Congressional map in hopes of gerrymandering new districts in their favor. In 2023, the liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court ordered new state legislative maps, a move which allowed Democrats to pick up seats in November. Susan Crawford has signaled that she supports redrawing the Congressional map in order to “put two more House seats in play.”

“The liberal candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court (Susan Crawford) participated in a briefing with Democratic donors billed as a ‘chance to put two more House seats in play,’ a move that Republicans say shows that she is committed to redrawing congressional districts to benefit Democrats,” reported the Associated Press.

Republicans currently hold one of the slimmest majorities in the history of the U.S. House. The current breakdown is 217 Republicans and 214 Democrats with 4 vacancies. In 2024, Republicans won 6 of Wisconsin’s 8 House seats. These are held by Reps. Bryan Steil, Derrick Van Orden, Glenn Grothman, Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Tiffany, and Tony Wied, all of which have pro-life voting records. With such tight margins, the pro-life movement cannot afford to lose any of those seats.

As a testament to the stakes of this election, spending in the race has broken records. According to a report from WisPolitics, “Nearly $59 million dollars has been dropped on the race between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel, breaking the previous record three weeks ahead of voters deciding ideological control of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court.”

If you are a Wisconsin resident, you can stop the pro-abortion agenda with your vote!

Early in-person voting runs March 18-30, hours vary by municipality. The final day to vote is Tuesday, April 1.

Schimel came out with an awesome ad stating that while he is pro life, abortion is not up to the courts and should be a voter or legislative issue. The dems are also trying to overturn Gov. Walker’s Act 10. So they will try to win this by any means possible.
