“This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th,” Trump declared in a Truth Social post, emphasizing the urgency of the measure. The hike comes just hours before an already-planned 25 percent tariff was set to take effect at midnight, marking yet another sharp shift in U.S.-Canada trade relations under Trump’s second term.
The president’s move underscores his determination to confront what he sees as Canada’s unfair trade policies, particularly its long-standing protectionist measures on key industries.
Trump further warned that if Canada does not roll back tariffs on dairy products and other U.S. agricultural products, he will impose even broader restrictions on Canadian exports starting April 2.
“Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous,” Trump said.
The White House is also preparing to increase tariffs on Canadian automobiles and auto parts, a move that could deliver a serious blow to Canada’s manufacturing sector. In February, Trump delayed a round of tariffs on Canadian goods, and last week, he announced a one-month extension for most imports, including auto parts, after consultations with U.S. automakers.
“If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA!” Trump said.
Trump also argued that the U.S. has been subsidizing Canadian national security.

The tariff escalation underscores Trump’s long-standing view that Canada has benefited disproportionately from trade with the U.S. while shielding key industries behind protectionist policies. Ontario’s new electricity levy, which the Trump administration has framed as an unjustified attack on U.S. consumers, was the immediate catalyst for the latest tariff hike.
. . . . . .
“If Canada is willing to restrict energy exports, what’s stopping it from weaponizing other industries? The Trump administration is making the case that Washington cannot afford to gamble its economic and strategic security on the goodwill of Ottawa,” a Trump official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said.
Big mistake Canada ...you don’t theeaten essentials like electricity which is used for actual survival. Dummies. Canadians are very stupid.
The markets have bounced back today.
Canadians have no foundation or principle. And yes, they’re inherently stupid. Eh
One of my favorite President Trump quotes: “Hit me and I’ll hit you twice as hard.”
Canada is a lost country.
Canada soon should learn they cannot win this battle with President Trump. Never forget the root cause. I don’t know why they resist doing what they have been asked to do, the things they were warned would trigger tariffs if they did not do:
1 - stop the fentanyl war against US citizens by shutting down its flow into their country plus where necessary shutting down whatever processing may be happening in Canada before it’s sent across our border
2 - stop the flow of illegal aliens into the USA through our northern border.
Getting into conflict with Canada when our interests are similar was stupid.
Vancouver has a junkie problem too.
I wonder if Cleveland Cliffs offer to buy out US Steel is gonna got through now.
It was Marco Rubio, JD Vance and a couple others who helped block the sale of US steel to Nippon in about 2023.
Cliffs has the mines. Has one other small steel mill so..
Western Canada is all we really need. We can let them keep what is east of a line drawn from James Bay down to Lake Huron. More sensible Canadians, the resources we could all use, minus Canada’s large eastern urban areas like Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Then we have control of the path from Alaska down to the USA along the Pacific. Western Canada may be open to the idea.
My favorite line from Casablanca: “When I slap you you’ll take it and like it.”
The Canadian retaliatory tariffs are targeted at causing pain and suffering in our energy intensive steel and aluminum industries.
The rocket scientists in the Canadian government neglected to consider that the primary source of steel and aluminum for their industrial export economy to the US is located in the areas they are targeting with the energy tariffs
The Canadians are not winning this one.
One must ask, why the resistance to patrolling the north border and stopping fentanyl by Canada
I’m in Milan, Italy.
I spoke to an Italian who was collecting funds for a drug user rehabilitation program.
He said it cost 40 Euros per day per patient.
From what he showed me and that I read, they seem to be taking the best aproach I’ve seen:

“Canadians have no foundation or principle. And yes, they’re inherently stupid.”
I’ve never met a stupid Canadian.
HOORAY President Trump!
Well, they can cut our electricity... we can throw a few switches and the power comes back on, provided by American companies...
However, 87% of Canada’s toilet paper comes from the U.S.
FAFO
What? It’s still down over 300.
I don’t think the hosers want to shut off the electricity to New York, Michigan and Minnesota. There are a lot of rough characters living in those states. “Dissing” them isn’t a good idea. They don’t like being “dissed”. They make people bleed for that.
Saw that
