There is a few problems. Trump is a populist who thinks he is doing the right thing. Against that are politicians in Canada who refuse to go beyond politics and act like statesmen. Threatening an economy 10 times your size is stupid. Ford is a petty idiot. If Trudeau was a statesman, he would sit down with the Trump Administration and say maybe walk away with 12% tariffs instead.

All those governors are democrats Whitmer, Walz, and Evers. The GOP has literally zero governors near Ontario province

People are acting like there isn’t already tariffs on Canadian goods. I can think of softwood lumber as one example where the USA has tariffs on Canada.

Time to switch who power is bought from.

Upper midwest-MN, UP of Michigan, lower Michigan and northern Wisconsin.

Over 500 million bdft per year studwood capacity.

Canada just lost its long term market in the USA with its cute little shenanigans.

Timber is my business and business is GOOD.

Trump could have handled this better. This part though is easy enough to fix.

On THAT scale?
Yes it is, practically speaking.

“Energy Independence” was a main promise that Trump ran on. Why tf are we buying electricity from anyone?

That’s why its called a tariff war.

So the upper Midwest will start having electricity rates 25% higher.

I read a report it was 20 kilograms. That’s over 700 ounces.

Percentage mean crap. Even 10 pounds is too much and can kill thousands.

As dumb as Dems arguing murder committed by illegals is no “higher” as a percentage than citizen murders.

Retarded.

Some tidbits from X
Boca Vista
@bocavista2016
CANADIAN FENTANYL
The largest fentanyl lab IN THE WORLD was busted in Vancouver

- China owned
- 100+ MILLION DOSES
- SHIPPED from Canada to US

Translation:
👉 “Only 43 lbs” = BULLSHIT

How out of touch is the media?

Well, this reporter asks why it’s necessary to stop the flow of fentanyl through Canada when “ONLY’ 43 pounds was seized there last year.

Just 2 mg of fentanyl will kill a full-sized man.

43 Pounds is enough to kill almost 10 million people.

🚨Breaking: RCMP Comissioner Duheme confirms that Canada is now a NET EXPORTER of FENTANYL.

It’s no surprise, since the NDP-Liberals passed Bill C-5 which removed mandatory prison time for drug trafficking and the production of fentanyl.

Shameful.

Raytional
@Raytional
All Canada had to do in order to avoid this tariff nightmare was to publicly arrest a few Chinese drug lords tied to the fentanyl problem. That would’ve shown it was onboard and treating the issue seriously. So simple.

But it didn’t.

Ask yourself why it didn’t and you’ll understand why the US went ahead with the tariffs.

Because Canadian hydro power is vastly abundant, extremely cheap, and only the US can really use it. The US is a monopsonist in this case, sole possible buyer (on this scale) its a US national asset.

Reasonable people should be able to come to reasonable terms.

Canada has a long standing 25% tariff on US goods. They tax the hell out of our dairy products going into Canada.

And the Canadian border is a prime passageway for illegals from India and Arab countries.

Neither we nor the Canadians want a protracted economic war with each other. It will be settled in some way within a few weeks. It does concern me we’re still utterly dependent on foreign countries for a number of our energy resources.

90% of terrorists on watch list apprehended, crossed from Canada
More than Mexico

Why?
Canadas extremely loose immigration laws grant entry and citizenship to virtually any 3d worlder. Over 50,000 students granted visas never enrolled in school and simply disappeared into Canada. Our govt seems to have good intel that terrorists that want to enter the US can and are using Canada.

An ISIS terrorist who was videotaped dismembering a captive…was granted asylum and Canadian citizenship.

Chinas presence has grown so large there are ChiCom police stations in Canadian cities to track intelligence on dissidents or anyone that opposes the ChiCom regime and its agenda ( maybe also in the USA)

Re: "There may be more interest in geothermal, where the geology is favorable."

I recently read an article about geothermal electricity at the Watts Up With That website. WUWT is the most visited Global Warming Skeptic website in the world.

Apparently, almost no USA geothermal electricity is connected to the USA national grid.

Apparently, the USA national grid is intolerant to even tiny fluctuations in electrical supply, and geothermal cannot meet that standard in most cases.

I am not an engineer - perhaps other Freepers can explain this problem in more detail.
