A major incident has been declared in the German city of Mannheim after a car reportedly rammed into pedestrians, leaving at least one person dead.
Armed police have been deployed across the centre of the city and members of the public have been told to stay away.
According to local reports, a black SUV drove at high speed from the city's parade ground towards the water tower into a crowd of people.
There are said to be several seriously injured people and numerous emergency services present.
It remains unclear whether this was an accident or an attack according to police.

As a consequence of the (new) German election law, the "Zweitstimme" is now weighted differently - all in an effort to limit parliamentary size to 630 seats. And because of the "5% Hurdle" and the fact that those parties not securing at least 5% of the vote are completely denied any seat (Bear with me: I'm simplifying here), the seats they loose are distributed to the "winners" - with the result that the surviving parties are assigned more seats than they "actually" earned.
Consequently, the AfD will wind up with approx. 24% of the seats.
But then there's the so-called "Firewall."
Also, had the AfD secured at least one-third of the seats (instead of roughly only one-quarter), they can now be denied participation in sub-committees.
Your fundamental statement is nonetheless valid: They are being denied to right to participate in democracy (even as a traditional "opposition" party).

Darn assault cars keep attacking people. They should ban them.
I have noticed with each car being driven into a crowd killing people, the press makes the car the active part of the story. “A car drove”. No, a car was driven into a crowd.
Amish car? Presbyterian SUV?
