Ontario polls are now closed.
My guess is a reduced majority
initial results ... look like a reduced majority
live results
CTV and the CBC projecting a majority. Over a million votes already counted, so many to go, but I the question now is how big. Called at 9:08
I know but parliamentary elections are always a disappointment. Hey we won but you only got 49% of the vote. aw shucks The other guys get to form the government.
CBC projects: a majority Conservative provincial legislative assembly
The Tories are running ahead of their 2022 numbers and more or less in line with pre-election polls.
Doug Ford’s message has been “not for sale.” This has been a big winner. This would be a good slogan for the Tories confederation-wide.
It looks like every party will have talking points-—
Ford gets a third consecutive majority, which hasn’t happened since the 50’s, but likely down a few seats.
The NDP also down a few seats but remains official opposition.
The Liberals gain more seats than anyone else, regaining party status, but Crombie may not win her seat.
And at least at the moment the Greens are leading in two ridings and seem to have a shot at a third.
Progressive conservatives???
Isnt that an oxymoron.
Truth in advertising. This is traditional name for the Conservatives in Canada-—although the Federal Branch, after a merger, switched to the COnservative Party of Canada-
Progressive conservatives?
It IS an oxymoron, that’s correct.
The CBC seems to be the only place with a decent map

Five ridings aren’t reporting anything yet
I know, sounds schizophrenic
That has happened the last several elections on the Federal level, but the Liberals are the ones with horrible efficiency in Ontario-—a solid second in vote percentage and a distant third in seats.
In 1935 that name came into vogue but it was a valid name for the likes of Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney former PM’s
In Ontario Doug Ford and his late brother Rob Ford former Mayor of Toronto definitely fit the notion of “Progressive Conservatives Rob the druggie and Doug the COVID mandate tyrant all the way.
He basically ran an anti-trump campaign. Fake conservative who likes to spend spend spend for votes.
He is more fiscally conservative than the alternatives, but that isn’t saying much. I went with a minor party that is running fourth out of six (ahead of the greens) in this riding.
So are they Progressive or Conservative?
I am I correct that this just the election in one province? How does it affect the federal govt?
Looks like Crombie is going to lose in her own riding....
You know the one thing I noticed in this election was that there were some fairly smart people that started the New Blue and the Ontario parties... totally fringe but no less fringe than when Reform started out. They got pushed out of the Conservative Party for some really stupid reasons that certainly didn’t reflect well on Ford. However both the New Blue and Ontario were totally invisible in this election... good grief, one couldn’t get a phone number, email address or website for most of the candidates. It was very disappointing.
Progressive. They are less progressive than the other three parties with seats.
It doesn’t directly affect the federal government, but Ontario has a long tradition of voting one way on the provincial level and the other on the federal level. The CPC (Federal Conservatives—Conservative Part of Canada) aren’t looking as good as they were a couple of months ago.
Probably another 2-3 months to the Federal election.
