So anytime I go TDY to the Denver area, I’ll buy sandwich stuff from the commissary and not bother eating out. He just saved a lot of my per diem!

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston wants to add a 20% service charge to local restaurant tabs — and then tax it — to help restaurants cope with the city’s minimum wage and promote what he called pay equity among tipped and non-tipped employees. If a 20% service surcharge would help - why not a 50% surcharge? Or 100%?

Do you want no restaurants? Because that’s how you get no restaurants.

Raising the prices 20% would be better than adding 20% as a service fee. You have already eaten the food, so you are now obligated to pay.
Truth in Pricing. The price you see should be the price you pay.

HOW would he feel if restaurant owners voted to reduce HIS salary 20%???

I read the article and it still makes no sense whether the money goes to the restaurant owner, the tipped servers or the non-tipped kitchen crew. I haven't heard a more confusing income redistribution scheme since the Dennis Moore skit from Monty Python.

LOL. Restaurant bills are too high due to minimum wage hikes and so no one is going to the restaurants. So, what is the solution? Increase prices even more with a 20% tax.

I was a bit confused also. Is he wanting the 20% surcharge instead of a tip? How much would the staff get, and how much would the city get?

Basic econ 101, he will learn about monetary elasticity.

My company issues a credit card for travel expenses. You are required to charge everything to that card. Car, gas, food, hotel room, airfare. Receipts are required for everything. If you under run "per diem", the company pockets the difference. If you over run, you get to pay the difference out of your after tax paycheck. It's no longer pleasant to travel. Between TSA and the travel department, I'll find a way to avoid travel.

So if I buy a $6 breakfast meal at McD’s I would have to pay a 20% service fee? That comes to $7.20.
