that of Rufus King (a local worthy) to Martin Luther King Junior. Not that MLK had any
connection to Seattle at all. Or Seattle much of an African American population.

So this is entirely in character. Seattle dominates the state of Washington.

William Rufus DeVane King was a senator from Alabama and served as Franklin Pierce's vice president briefly until death claimed him a month after inauguration. Senator Andrew Johnson of Tennessee called him "Senator Nancy Boy" for his suspected homosexuality.

Rufus King was not a 'local worthy'. He was vice president of the United States. They name the county 'King' in order to curry favor in D.C. Sadly, this turned out to be a not-so-good investment, as Rufus King died of Leukemia 7 weeks into his term.
