Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday U.S. President Donald Trump will hold off on levying tariffs on Canada for at least 30 days after Canada made a series of commitments to improve security along the border. The country can let out a collective sigh of relief — at least for now. To get Trump to shelve his punishing tariffs, Trudeau said Canada is reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel and stepping up its co-ordination with American officials to stop the flow of fentanyl. Trudeau said, all told, there will be 10,000 front-line personnel working along the border to address Trump's stated priority: a major crackdown on drugs and migrants.

OK...so now DJT goes to Step #2. IIRC things are topsy turvey in Canada right now.Trudeau is leaving office and,I think,there will be elections soon. So we’ll see what happens.
Canada is simply a subordinate nation it has more to lose in this situation. So Trudeau rolls some stuff out to appease and Trump calls it a win.

The Premier in Ontario Doug Ford called his elections three weeks from today to cash in on this situation.
I don’t think this is over but not in a bad way. I think trade, rather than border security, was the real objective. Perhaps this got the Canadians attention and we can expect a more favorable trade deal in a few months.

Wall Street will always cry about any tariff that decreases the bottom line for companies involved in international trade.
I wouldn’t expect anything different from them.
As a capitalist, it pains me to oppose their current position, but these measures have to be done.

Trump got a massive win here, and they are evidently desperate to say anything now trying to diminish he shine somewhat. I particularly like the fact that (apparently) Trump seem to be keeping the tariffs on China. That shows that he is unafraid of the world’s biggest bully.

The capitulation by Canada & Mexico on trade was a forgone conclusion.
China is a completely different animal, an animal that has huge leverage on many businesses in the United States.
