NYC sees dip in major crimes, new data shows

The Big Apple saw a 2% drop in major crime in the first few months of the fiscal year — along with a dip in transit crime, an early peek at Mayor Eric Adams’ annual report revealed.

The Adams administration is expected to tout a 7% drop in transit crime, a 9% reduction in car thefts, 3% fewer grand larcenies, a 4.8% decrease in robberies and a 2.8% dip in burglaries from July to October of last year compared to the same time period in 2023, according to a City Hall source.

“Our administration is focused on making New York City the best place to raise a family, and that means making our city safer and more affordable, as well as improving quality of life for working-class New Yorkers,” Adams said.

“From preventing crime in our parks to cracking down on car thefts to making the subway system safer, we are delivering on that mission and ensuring New York City remains the safest big city in the country.”

...there’s probably only 100 or so really bad actors that needed to be arrested, to drive down the data.

WINNING!

That’s what usually happens when there are consequences to ones actions... In this era, it’s deportation...

Quite the deterrent me thinks...

Yes, I agree. We call it the Trump effect.
But Democrats call it the Trump defect.

Well, if it isn’t reported or dealt with as crime, the of course the rate of *crime* drops.

I doubt it actually did for real.

It will now with ICE cleaning up the streets.

Pushing people onto subway tracks has been downgraded to littering. < /S>

A drop from extremely high rates just shows a trajectory. Let us see a comparison to the rates before COVID.

This is for July/October of 2024. Just wait until the Trump Effect REALLY hits!

Adams will still take credit for it all, of course, but anybody with a brain will know better.

I remember decades ago police saying that they could arrest maybe 90 criminals and stop most of NYC’s crime.

It's not the number of crimes, it's who counts the crimes and how they go about understating the occurrences.

(Info I've gotten from a couple of retired LEOs)

OR——SOME “REPORTS” are not being filed.

SCHOOLS DID that for years to try & hide the incidents t the schools.

“Just don’t consider them crimes, problem solved!”

Exactly. Especially in big Democrat controlled cities.

Puhleeeeze! If you don’t prosecute, or you allow criminals to plead down to misdemeanors, of course your crime stats are going to look good. The problem is that no matter how much bullshit you shovel or smoke you blow, the people being victimized know the truth.

As long as the reductions weren’t achieved by changing crime definitions, well and good!
