Report: California Is Emitting Massive Amounts of Carbon Due to Fires

California, which prides itself on leading the effort to regulate carbon dioxide emissions, is emitting massive amounts of carbon due to wildfires, losing six times more carbon from federal land than any other state in the past 17 years.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday:

While federal land ecosystems in most states are sequestering carbon dioxide on average, California’s lost six times more than any other state during the 17-year period from 2005 to 2021 that the study analyzed.

In five of the 17 years the [U.S. Geological Survey] team analyzed, California’s federal lands acted as a carbon sink — not a source. For example, in 2019, the state experienced well over two times its average precipitation in many regions, boosting plant growth and, despite the devastating Kincade fire, had a relatively mild fire season.

But just a year later, the state’s federal lands released more carbon than any other year in the study period due to a record-setting fire season that burned over 4 million acres and, according to the USGS study, emitted over 90 million tons of carbon dioxide on federal land alone.

Democrats have long claimed that wildfires are caused by climate change — which could be a factor, but not the only factor. President Donald Trump has also blamed poor forestry management and water policy for the dramatic fires.

CO2 is PLANT FOOD, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EARTHS TEMPERATURE.

When are idiots going to stop listening to liars?

Carbon isn’t a pollutant, so no problem.

And then there’s this.....

Moss Landing fire fallout: Concentrations of heavy-metal nanoparticles found nearby

https://www.montereyherald.com/2025/01/27/moss-landing-fire-fallout-concentrations-of-heavy-metal-nanoparticles-found-nearby/

I heard the number of batteries destroyed was equivalent to over 30,000 Tesla’s burning.

Methane and water vapor are better at holding heat than CO2

The vegetation and all the creatures reliant upon it send their thanks. It’s good to share the stuff of which all life is built.

To bad they still don’t get that not clearing brush equals a huge carbon foot print when it burns.

Massive amount? Pur atmosphere is 6 quadrillion tons- how many tons of co2 is the fire really putting put compared to that?

The fumes of burning herbicides, pesticides, paint, foam, rubber and synthetic fiber clothes & carpets are not safe to breathe.

Thank you for referencing that article ChicagoConservative27.

"Report: California Is Emitting Massive Amounts of Carbon Due to Fires"

As a side note to preventable California fires and associated carbon dioxide, California cannibas is evidently a carbon problem too.

Growing an Ounce of Pot Indoors Can Emit as Much Carbon as Burning a Full Tank of Gas (non-FR; 3.15.21)

Beware of dead-end socialist utopian escapism.

The amount of carbon released from the vegetation is the same whether it burned or decomposed. Burning is just quicker.
