Meet the woman who has not done a supermarket shop in four years — and gets all of her meals from the dumpster. Sofie Juel-Anderson, 30, started dumpster diving in October 2020 while living in Sydney, Australia.
She started out by taking just fresh produce from designated bins — but soon realized she could get an entire weekly shop. Sofie now only buys household items such as toilet roll, dishwashing soap and toothpaste from supermarkets and spent just $99 in 2024.
By sourcing her food from the dumpster, Sofie saves thousands of pounds annually and has used that cash to travel the world.

If this woman lives in Australia, how is she saving pounds? They haven't been doing that since the 60'.

Does she dumpster dive when she travels? All she has to do is bring a tent with her, set it up on the side of the road scope out all the best European dumpsters ahead of time, and live the life touring the continent in style.

Somebody needs to tell her about pagpag. Filipino slum dwellers have taken dumpster diving to places she’s probably never even dreamed of.

Seems a little risky to me as I’m sure not all that stuff is fresh.
The way things are, if she got sick or injured from eating spoiled food, she would sue the restaurant or other food establishment which placed the waste products in the dumpster.
She must be one fast person! I’ve seen rats the size of cats converge on dumpsters the moment food gets thrown out.
I’ll pass. Ratatouille was a cute movie, but rat reality is on another level of bacteria and filth.
