Texas border czar Mike Banks has been tapped to be the next US Border Patrol chief, sources told The Post Thursday.
Banks, a longtime former border agent himself, will serve as the federal agency’s 27th head under the Trump administration, according to a source familiar with his appointment...
...Until now, Banks has been serving as the Lone Star State’s first-ever border czar — a position created by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2023 to deal with the unprecedented influx of illegal migrants pouring across the US border...
...Banks has more than three decades of federal law enforcement leadership experience under his belt — including 23 years specifically tied to the US-Mexico border.
The Texas-native was the former agent in charge at the USBP’s Weslaco Station and has held various other positions in other border states, including Arizona and California.
Banks is also a former member of the US Navy Military Police.

Starts work Monday.
👍 Good.
I thought that was Homan’s position.
Homan (who also served many years as a Border Patrol Officer) was previously the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In the next Trump Administration (Monday), Homan will be the Border Czar, likely in the White House Complex, and will have a particular emphasis on supervising deportation operations.
Mike Banks will command the Uniformed Border Patrol Officers.
I expect that Monday, President Trump will invoke the National Emergencies Act, like he did during his first term, and have the Military resume building Border Wall.
Ah. So, which one (besides Trump) will be “the Boss”?
The straight Chain of Command would be from the Chief of the Border Patrol (Mike Banks), to Customs and Border Protection, to The Secretary of Homeland Security (Kristi Noem, nominated) to the President.
Border Czar Tom Homan will be an adviser to the President, like a General Officer on the Staff at the highest headquarters, but not a Commander.
