Burrows’ effective governing coalition is 36 Republicans and 49 Democrats — and is the first time a speaker was elected in the official vote with a minority of his own party behind him in recent memory.

Democrats and pantywaist "Republicans" (just like in Ohio in 2023) join together to keep a moderate "Republican" as Speaker.
He'll be another Dade Phelan or Joe Straus, that is, another John Boehner or Paul Ryan.

This continues to demonstrate that in Texas many democrats pose as Republicans to get elected, and then revert to form immediately. At the national level, think Cornyn.
Very disappointed in unengaged voters to allow this. Fortunately, my Representative did vote for Cook but a lot of good it ended up doing. I don’t particularly like him, and voted against him in the Primary, but at least on this vote, he voted properly.

Lots of them will be primaried.
Count on it. Texas Republicans are tired of being played.
They primaried a fair number last time.
To: cotton1706
Gotta keep primarying and taking out RINOs. Keep doing it until everybody understands doing this ends your political career.

And the Speaker vote identified THOSE WHO NEED TO BE PRIMARIED OUT.
