It started with just a small group gathered in Mississauga's Celebration Square, rejoicing that 10,000 km (6,200 miles) away, the Syrian city of Homs had fallen to rebel forces.
But when news broke that President Bashar al-Assad had fled the country, putting an end to the country's civil war, this town square in a small Canadian city became flooded with people celebrating, many of whom had fled Assad's regime for Canada just a decade ago.
"I was crying for more than 45 minutes," said Khaled Abdulwahed, a 31-year-old Syrian who resettled in Toronto when he was just a young man and helped organise Sunday's impromptu event.
Now a Canadian citizen, Mr Abdulwahed - who was 17 when he first participated in anti-government protests in Syria - has continued to advocate for the human-rights of his country, which has earned him the title of the "Syrian mayor of Toronto".
While many have begun to plan trips to see family and friends, they have also shared how Canada will, for most of them, remain home.

When George Washington was putting up handbills calling for volunteers, what if they had all left to England and Europe to get out before the shooting got bad? Some, as in New York, actually left for Canada. “The Loyalists” and the “New England Planters” who fled for New Brunswick and elsewhere. An estimated 20% of New Yorkers sided with the British.
The ones for Washington stayed after “the shot heard round the world.” Many died, others were tracked by the British by the trail of blood in the fresh snow as some had no boots or shoes in the winter battles.
These Syrian turkeys didn’t fight for freedom.
The guy did cry for 45 minutes, though. That’s something.
They should be selective. Chinese or Hindu Indians. Then they'll assimiliate.
But Muslims? They're like the Borg. They'll end up conquering you.
They need workers to pay taxes to pay for promises of retirement for actual Canadians.

3. The Mounties WILL make them nervous because they equate "uniform" with the notorious Syrian army. However, their CHILDREN will grow up admiring and respecting THAT Canadian uniform because there is a WORLD of difference between the two cultures.
We visited Syria. They LIKE the money tourists bring but they don't want the tourists to leave the tourist area.
FYI.
Towns grew up in the middle east in those HOT desert towns where there was a permanent source of fresh water--a permanent fresh water well.
Generally a town had that ONE source of fresh water.
HOWEVER, Damascus had and still has TWO genuine fresh water wells. That's why Damascus is such a HUGE city, LOTS of water. It's been that way for thousands of years. They are blessed.
The Chinese will gather in their own areas and ignore the rest of the country...until they are FOURTH generation. THEN they will assimilate.
Chinese = FOB = Fresh off the Boeing
CIA = Chinese in America = assimilate a little, usually the younger ones.
ABC = American Born Chinese = 100% American. AND they will probably take classes to learn Cantonese.
Yes I know, their language is Mandarin but since they live in the USA they will hang out with other Chinese for a while...that would be those Chinese originally from Canton. The Chinese REALLY believe in their superiority to all other cultures.
You will be able to tell a Chinese from China by TWO ways:
The Chinese of both genders will have absolutely NO chest or butt...all flat as a pancake, front and back and you'll know the males from the females only by the length of their hair: men with short, short hair, the women will longer hair.
1. The ABC's will actually HAVE a chest/breasts AND
2. a behind/butt with some meat on it.
The former don't get enough meat and milk and the ABCs get as much as any other American.
The Chinese don't have an official religion. Their religion is, I think, what the BIG BOSSES tell them it is. They've always had HUNDREDS of gods for whatever purpose needed.
The Hindus most certainly do, Hinduism, but for some reason the Indians don't assimilate like other cultures. I THINK it's because they believe that their own culture is so vastly superior to ours that they see NO advantage to assimilate. Just an opinion.
Muslims in America...what an oxymoron. There aren't very many. But IF they do assimilate, they will probably eventually lose their faith. One hardly ever hears of Muslims in the USA.
