Biden Pledges Millions for Ambitious Railroad to Zambia, Congo
Africa News ^

President Joe Biden on his visit to sub-Saharan Africa pledged another $600 million for a cross-continent rail corridor project Wednesday, telling regional leaders that “Africa has been left behind for much too long. But not anymore. Africa is the future.”

Biden used the third and final day of his visit to Angola to showcase the Lobito Corridor railway, where the U.S. and allies are investing heavily to refurbish 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) of train lines in Zambia, Congo and Angola.

The project aims to advance the U.S. presence in a region rich in cobalt, copper and other critical minerals used in batteries for electric vehicles, electronic devices and clean energy technologies. By the end of the decade, the rail line could even go a long way toward linking southern Africa's west and east coasts.

“It’s a game changer,” Biden said, and cited the transformational effect of building the transcontinental railroad in the United States. Cargo that once took 45 days to get to the United States — usually involving trucks to South Africa — will now take less than 45 hours, he said. He also predicted the project could transform the region from a food importer to exporter. Altogether, Biden said the U.S. has invested $4 billion along the Lobito Corridor.

Africa is China’s future, for now, at least.

This just helps his masters in China.

SoCal’s infrastructure is worse than the DR Congo’s, assuming DR Congo has infrastructure.

“Africa is the future.”

That is the punch line for a thousand jokes.

I'll bet that the United States Citizens in storm-ravaged North Carolina could use millions.

Also, how about some needed VA services for our Veterans?

These millions would be deserved and valued and put to good use.

I’m surprised he didn’t also pledge $1 billion for a “Cairo to Capetown” railroad that the Brits gave up on a hundred years ago, too.

This one is an attempt to refurbish the trans-Africa railroad the Portuguese wanted.

Biden’s money will be as well spent as the the money the colonial powers spent on infrastructure in Africa.

The civil wars and guerilla violence in Africa goes on and on.

But Biden’s railroad will push through.

An acquaintance of mine went to Africa some years back to make an assessment of the existing materials on hand to either build or re-build a modest railroad. He said it was like a long scrapyard of unused but rusted and rotted equipment, that would have been far in excess of what was needed... including enough signal equipment laying around to handle a Class 1 line across the US. Maybe “Amtrak Joe” got 10% of that transaction and this is a farewell “kickback” tour.

Seems that any infrastructure project in Africa gets bogged down, and ends up as a pile of crap.
Maintenance is a strange word there.

It seems that almost all the good being done in sub Sahara Africa is being done by Christian agencies. They build hospitals, terrorist islamics burn them down and kill everybody, and two years later they are back to serve the people. No one knows how many wells they have dug to provide the people fresh, clean water. This will never be featured by big media; it will be ignored. The good works of the Chabadniks too.
