“The EMP threat is an overblown hyped up non threat.”
You are incorrect. Its more than nothing, less than a Hollywood depiction. We dont know exactly where it falls in between those extremes. At a minimum, the power grid is very likely to go down. The unknown is “for how long”.
> Need EMP hardening in our homes’ electrical systems?
Most whole house systems don’t clamp down quick enough or cover the spectrum needed for nuclear EMP.
“””” In my elementary school, when the siren went off we had to go into the hallway and face the wall. No hiding under the desks.
Maybe we went into the hallway to avoid any flying glass. Or maybe our desks weren’t as sturdy as they could have been.””””
The difference is the siren, you have time to move, if you see a flash then duck and cover to protect from painful thermal effects (3rd to 1st degree burns) or “light” blast wave pressure (e.g. 1-4 psi, which will blow your windows in and cause earthquake-like damage).
No “big winners” in a nuclear war even if your country is not targeted.
When I was in school, we had drills on what to do in an air attack. Sirens would go off, and we were to put our heads down on the desk, cover with our arms.
Yes, that was the drill.
During WWII, cities would go dark at night, so not be a shining light for air attack.
That is from the movie (80s I think) “The Dead Zone” with Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen.
I don’t want to spoil it for you since you haven’t seen it. It’s probably too intense for children but I’ve watched it several times.
1. Move far away from the neocons who thirst for war.
> The difference is the siren, you have time to move… <
Ah, that makes sense. I still preferred the hallway method as it gave me the chance to stand next to my first crush, Melissa.
I tried to be brave during these nuclear war drills, for her sake. 🙂
I feel better with President Trump on guard, than Joe or any Democrat.
An EMP burst will send the public into the abyss.
COVID-19(84) will look like a piece of cake.
And a good number of the shelves were stripped. For weeks on end. I know, because I looked - often.
Canned vegetables, canned soup, bread, milk, meat, chicken - GONE - for weeks on end. Multiple times.
Pork products were still available and the high-priced bread was still available. My Walmart had baked bread, like French Bread for $1 - that was often available though
[At a minimum, the power grid is very likely to go down. The unknown is “for how long”.]
YES (BTW)
Ukraine is not worth it. Nope.
Do most know how to live day by day with power down and all that would include.. we who grew up in a time when electricity was not in all homes..remember the ways and means.
In the upper left-hand corner, you may recognize the man on the right - that is Mr. Atoz - Mr. A-to-Z, the librarian, from the Star Trek (TOS) episode with Mariette Hartley - All Our Yesterdays
LOL. Don’t forget the steel lockers...At my age, I don’t fear it any longer for myself like I used to, but I grieve for the younger folks and my country..
Would you please post test results where an EMP “knocked out” power transmission? Thanks.
You are quite correct. There was a time I was paid to simulate a nuclear exchange w/Russia. To paraphrase, "Thems that die will be the lucky ones."
