The University of Texas System announced Wednesday it will expand its free tuition program for lower-income families to include all families making $100,000 or less a year.
The Board of Regents gave preliminary approval to the plan, which is an expansion of its Promise Plus program. The free tuition for undergraduate students will begin in the fall of 2025 and will cover tuition and fees.
In a press release the UT System said the move will make it one of the few in the U.S. to offer “such a sweeping financial aid benefit.”

Taxpayers pay all. Non-taxpayers free. Punishment for productive people. You’ll own nothing and love it
“Free” just means someone else is paying for it.
Beyond that, everyone should have at least a little skin in the game. Reduced tuition is actually much better than no tuition.
The tuition is not free.
The students may not pay for it, but taxpayers do.
This is a jobs program for Big Ed.
and more fodder for the marxist propaganda machine, free comes with a price. for the free you will follow our program for the not so free(taxpayers) you will be footing the bill
I’m glad I paid for my degree from A&M rather than some crap from t.u. anyway.
Do students have to be citizens or legal residents to get this UT free tuition?
IOW — Can illegal alien squatters get in on this deal?
Definitely agree that students should be paying some-—At least half sounds right to me.
A lot of people are hard workers who make under 100K. These are being paid by endorsements. It’s about time they spend that money.
Who is paying all the tuitions for under 100K families?
“Who is paying all the tuitions for under 100K families?”
Hopefully, a massive endowment fund.
More likely, they’re raising the price of other student. So that would be welfare and socialism.
IOW Isle of Wright
TLA’s suck.
Agreed. I worked full time the entire time I was in college getting my BS In computer science.
And it didn’t kill me working full time the whole time I was in college.
Well that ought to raise their aggregate gpa, throw in a lot more ath the lete
Scoollerships and you have your chicken dinner
So goodbye to Texas university
Sounds like hell
Exactly! Universities guard those endowments judiciously. It’s how the wealthy stay wealthy. They will merely increase costs and Sally Mae will float loans
So what do you pay at $100k? Do we really want to reward the more shiftless/intellectually limited parents? Incentivize others to underemploy themselves?
I’m all for academic scholarships and starting at the community college level, working up to a state U degree for those who haven’t been able to lure such from another school.
Sigh... that’s all that Austin, Texas, needs - more freeloaders.
