The Monterey County District Attorney's Office has released a statement in light of allegations resurfacing against President-elect Donald Trump's pick for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, over an alleged sexual assault in 2017 at a Monterey Hotel.
The Monterey County District Attorney's Office said that they chose not to pursue charges against Hegseth due to a lack of "proof beyond a reasonable doubt."

"Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced today that on January 18, 2018, her office declined to file charges concerning the Monterey Police Department’s investigation of an alleged sexual assault documented in MPD report number YG1705129. No charges were supported by proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The District Attorney’s Office will have no further comment on this matter."
Hegseth, a Fox News commentator and Army National Guard officer, was accused of sexual assault in 2017, the city reported shortly after he was named to be in Trump's cabinet. The incident happened after he made a speaking appearance at a Republican women's conference in the city.
The police report was released by the City of Monterey after KSBW filed a California Public Records Act request.
The report says that Hegseth was accused of rape by a nurse who conducted a sexual assault exam on the Jane Doe. The victim had told the nurse that she was drinking at the Hyatt Hotel in Monterey with coworkers when she thought something had slipped into her drink.
The victim said she had met Hegseth at the conference when she confronted him at the Republican women's conference, saying she did not appreciate how he treated women. She said she saw him acting inappropriately and "giving off a 'creeper' vibe." After she confronted him for how he was touching women at the conference, Hegseth followed her and had an exchange with her by the pool, according to the report.
"Jane Doe remembered Hegseth tell her that he was a nice guy," the report reads.
Jane Doe told investigators that after the exchange, her next memory was that she was in an unknown room, which is when Hegseth assaulted her.
"JANE DOE'S next memory was when she was on a bed or a couch and HEGSETH was over her. HEGSETH'S dog tags were hovering over her face. HEGSETH was bare-chested, but JANE DOE does not know if his shirt was completely off. JANE DOE did not notice any tattoos, scars and or marks on HEGSETH'S body. JANE DOE stated she had seen HEGSETH fully nude during this incident (sic)," the report reads.
Police investigated and closed the case without filing any charges against Hegseth.

According to http://www.distractify.com/p/pete-hegseth-tattoos (published 2024), he only started getting tattoos in the last few years. The alleged attack was in 2017. How long is “last few years” to him? The tattoos in the photos are huge and would be difficult to not see.

Ay, por favor-the woman is lying if she didn’t notice any of Hegseth’s many tats-that is impossible...
And what difference does it make who has the most tattoos? Every veteran out here in the hinterlands has at least 2 or 3 tats visible on their arms-some elaborate-whether they served in Vietnam or Iraq-they are also about 3/4 of the small business owners here. It would be most unwise to come around waving a Bible and criticizing tats...
