A Philadelphia jury awarded $11 million on Wednesday to a man whose holstered Sig Sauer pistol went off by itself while he was going down the stairs, causing a serious leg injury — the second major verdict this year against the embattled gun manufacturer over its P320 model.
After a three-week trial, the jury concluded that New Hampshire-based Sig Sauer was negligent for selling a defective gun and holster. The plaintiff’s lawyers said the P320 pistol is prone to going off without the trigger being pulled, a defect that has led to scores of injuries around the U.S.

I owned a P320 (the M18) - never fired unless I pulled the trigger, which I did for about a thousand rounds. I ended up selling it, but only because I found the grip annoying, not because it went off by itself. I can believe if you dropped the gun a few thousand times it might go off by itself once or twice. I can believe you could snag the trigger on a holster. I don't believe there's some general issue with the P320.
This sounds a lot like the old bogus stories about cars accelerating by themselves - one or two rare genuine instances, and a whole lot of people hitting the gas when they meant to hit the brake.

I have one and I am leery about it, but after 100’s of rounds and carrying once or twice it has not gone off, so... I still prefer my 229 with a de-cock on it or Staccato (1911 frame).

The US military issues this pistol as the M-18. The new standard service pistol.
It has been tested extensively over many years.
I believe Sig Sauer.

“Why did he have one in the pipe?”
So he didn’t have to draw his sidearm, chamber a round, and fire when the zombies are closing fast.
I always carry with a round in the chamber and the safety on.

I’m situationally aware - I don’t wander around like I got whacked in the head by a 2X4, unlike a lot of people.

I have 3 P320 variants. They also go bang every time I pull the trigger, I wasn’t aware that was abnormal.

I always carry with a round in the chamber and the safety on. Sometimes I do, WHEN the situation warrants it.
Otherwise, I figure I got a few seconds.
Of course, I don't live in close proximity to The Walking Dead. On purpose.

Why did he have one in the pipe? Because that's the way pistols are SUPPOSED to be carried.

If the situation warrants carrying a sidearm, the situation warrants carrying it loaded.
I always carry the same way, so I don’t have to remember which way I’m carrying it.
You do you, I’ll do me ... but you asked and you got an answer. If you don’t like the answer, that’s your personal problem.

My personal problem is gun control.
Specifically, enough range time to enable good gun control.
If the situation warrants carrying a sidearm, the situation warrants carrying it loaded.
Opinions are like that other thing.
Everyone has one.
