In a world where billionaires often flaunt their wealth with flashy supercars, Bernard Arnault’s choice of a $12,000 Peugeot 205 GTI is a surprising twist. This story uncovers the wisdom behind his practical approach to luxury and wealth, offering invaluable insights.
A Billionaire’s Practical Ride
Bernard Arnault, the fifth richest man in the world, surprises many by driving a modest yet iconic Peugeot 205 GTI. While one might expect him to glide through the streets in a glittering Lamborghini or Ferrari, his choice reveals a thoughtful attitude toward wealth and personal safety. Adjusted for security, this seemingly unremarkable vehicle has become more than just a means of transport; it stands as a testament to Arnault's belief that true luxury does not always have to be ostentatious.
The Charm of Subtlety
Imagine the scene: a sleek, understated car navigating the bustling streets, quietly turning heads. In stark contrast to showy vehicles that scream for attention, the Peugeot embodies a more refined notion of elegance — one that resonates with Arnault’s philosophy. The modification for security is a subtle reminder that safety often comes first, even for those accustomed to immense wealth. This blend of practicality and subtlety is increasingly becoming a hallmark of modern billionaires, shifting away from the traditional tastes of a bygone era.
Collector’s Item: From Utility to Luxury
The Peugeot 205 GTI, originally a humble hatchback, has seen its value soar in recent years, especially given its connection to Arnault and the luxury conglomerate, LVMH. Auction yards now celebrate this car, some fetching up to $66,000 — a nod to its collector's status. This transformation exemplifies how a billion-dollar brand can elevate something so seemingly ordinary into a coveted piece of automotive history. It captures the essence of how wealth can redefine value in unexpected ways.

He may drive whatever he likes, but this is still a crapwagon.
Hope he has a few spares stashed away if he really wants to keep driving these.
“The French copy no one, and no one copies the French.”
Stupid article doesn't state the "shocking reason" in the very first paragraph!
FAIL!
Regards,
The $12,000 price suggests why, but there is no reason given.
Agreed. But for the purposes of personal security driving a common, nondescript car is kinda genius.
CC
He’s wealthy for a reason.
Yeah. Clickbait garbage.
,,, when was the last time you drove the GTI version?
“GTi” = Shorter service life.
All FWD cars are nightmares to work on.
Cost of labor often exceeds parts.
No worry for him he can afford it.
Maybe he has three to keep in rotation, so one will always be running?
,,, one of my vehicles is a 306 cabriolet. Its cute, but, admittedly, its an enthusiast’s car. As you say, labour costs are high but at least experienced service sites use the right tools and know the vehicles well. The 306 is a classic now... a bit bigger than a 205. The 205’s handling is superb and the GTi has plenty of grunt in it. I think Peugeot stopped sales in the US in 1991, so proximity determines compassion. I’m at the bottom of the world and parts are available but pricey. Summer’s approaching so the top will be down over Christmas/New Year.
What year?
Excuse me. Where do you see that the price of the car is $12,000?
Look at this link. This car is beast.
Blah blah blah blah blah. What the heck is the reason for being kicked out of his office and what were the circumstances? The author needs to get to the fricking point
He also sleeps with a woman who looks a lot like my ex wife
Salma Hayek (his rib)
To his credit he has a sharp eye for luxury brands
There are other wealthy individuals who drive non descript trucks or cars as well. Frankly this is hardly that remarkable.
Found this on another site
The guards’ couldn’t believe the real Bernie would drive such a car
I hate click-bait too
Looks like something Mr. Bean would drive.
That’s correct.
Even I sometimes drive a 2003 Corolla, so no one will be thinking I might have over $17 dollars in my pocket. It works! (I sometimes carry $20)
:)
