Tide shifts against criminal justice reform among California voters
Los Angeles Times ^ | Nov 6, 2024 | James Queally & Anabel Sosa

Four years after nationwide calls for a reimagining of the criminal justice system, voters dramatically reversed course on Tuesday night. California voters passed

Proposition 36, a tough-on-crime ballot measure, and ousted progressive prosecutors in Los Angeles and Alameda counties.

Proposition 6, an effort to ban involuntary servitude and mandatory work requirements for state prisoners, also failed.

In deep-blue L.A. County, the “godfather of progressive prosecutors” lost his reelection bid by more than 20 percentage points to a former Republican.

In the Bay Area, voters appear to have recalled another reform-minded district attorney.

And statewide, a tough-on-crime ballot initiative passed with overwhelming support.

Four years after nationwide calls for police accountability and a reimagining of the criminal justice system led to big wins for reform candidates in California, voters dramatically reversed course Tuesday night.

I hate the way the Left manipulates language.

What voters want is actual “criminal justice reform”.

What the Left has called “criminal justice reform” would more accurately be described as “deliberate criminal justice system degradation”, or perhaps “criminal justice sabotage”.

Liberals and hairbrained policy reforms are like toddlers and hot stoves. No matter many times you say “don’t do it” they won’t really learn until they touch the hot stove.

My observation exactly.

Euphemistic.

To be fair: Trump actually took the lead on justice reform:

“Former President Trump attacked CNN commentator Van Jones on Sunday as a “lowlife” who never thanked him for helping pass a bipartisan bill in 2018 that reformed parts of the criminal justice system.

“I got it done, with Conservative help, and this lowlife, Jones, never once called to thank me, or the others that helped, for what we had done. Along with Opportunity Zones, the long term funding of HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, and much more, I’ve done more for our black population than anyone other than, perhaps, Abraham Lincoln!!! Sorry, but that’s the way it is!!!” Trump continued.”

My take is that the tide did not shift. Voters didn’t clearly understand the ramifications of prop 47. It took a while, but they just corrected their mistake.

Well yes, if “criminal justice reform” means the criminals get to run wild without consequence, yes, we’re “shifting against” that. LOL.

It will take awhile but showing Americans the real story what CA has done to their state is a good start.
