That means half are below average, and half are above average. I think that’s why it’s called “average.”
Count us out of the middle class but we still pay income tax and every dime is squeezed and squeezed again for property tax.
We aren’t on assistance but for grins and giggles (aka Tums and grumbles) I check the USDA’s lowest EBT food plan, the Thrifty Meal Plan, and we’ve always managed to stay just under half. Guess they figure the EBT crowd needs steak and there’s a reason there are EBT signs in all the restaurants.
Our September’s normal meals came to <$3.75 per day per person. No eating out. No steak or truffles. But also no cheapo beans and rice though I did toss pasta in a soup. We had meat all but 2-3 days. We had desserts. It is cook from scratch and make every morsel stretch. Nothing is wasted. The < was putting a couple things in the freezer and taking some to a neighbor.
Had a 40 oz can of Bruce’s sweet potatoes that was nearly 3 cups of liquid so never again, Bruce! Made it stretch for a small pie and some birthday cookies for the neighbor. One cup liquid went to flavor our coffee (no $tarbucks) and 2 C are frozen to someday make a water pie and muffins. Can’t afford to throw out edible food as that’s money down the drain.
