American planes were ready to rescue Israel Air Force pilots in case of an emergency during Operation Days of Repentance, which saw Israeli jets strike in Iran, Army Radio reported on Sunday.

We're being dragged into a major Mideast war, regardless of who wins in November, and few people seem to know or care.
Nah…everything we do is to stifle and restrict Israel from defending themselves. Our aid is coercive aid….While we give the Palestinians more money and military hardware than any nation on earth. It’s an old playbook since WWI…The MIL funds both sides while the people suffer
Law of the seas and humanity demand any ship or plane come to the aid of any person lost at sea....as long as it does not hazard unreasonably your own ship.
We’d pick up downed Russian pilots flying for Syria, or Hamas insurgents adrift as well.
Having an agreed protocol in advance of need is what allies do.
This news blip appears more a reassuring “America’s got our back” happy talk to reassure a nervous Israeli population than a major policy change.
There is nothing major about doing search and rescue for Israel. It is literally maybe twenty aircraft splatting whatever comes close to downed pilots. A major war would be a ground invasion. Search and rescue for the downed stealth fighter and F-16 over Serbia in the 90s wasn’t a major war either.
Iran can’t invade Israel or the US. We’re not about to invade Iran either. In the 80s, during Operation Praying Mantis, Reagan sank a significant part of Iran’s navy for attacking Gulf shipping. Was it a skirmish? Sure. A major war? It wasn’t even a war, let alone a major one.
“We’re being dragged into a major Mideast war,”
We’ve been neo-conned into a Middle-east war pretty much non-stop since our 1990/91 Kuwait counter invasion of Iraq.....a former friend/soft ally against Iran.
And remember, that “starter war” was for our Arab friends, not the Jewish ones.
Though I argue it was good for Israel, after 911 to have a hoped for American occupied vassal state between them and Iran....which is why Israel probably had some wink-wink-nudge-nudge going on in the 911 attacks.....
As as an empire, we look for trouble everywhere...its all good for the lobbyists, the Military Industrial Complex, and banks.
There is a controversy about whether or not the IAF even entered Iranian airspace.

I have lost belief in the possibility of a “major Mideast War.” Who would fight in it? No one is aiding Iran. The rest of the Middle East is just watching, and Russia doesn’t have the depth to fight on another front. Hez and Ham are significantly degraded and are in check. The Houthis are one good B-52 run from being toast. Once Israel destroys Iran’s nuclear program, which they just prepared for, there will be relative peace in the Middle East.
This is my question too. How exactly did the IDF jets fly to Iran?
Over Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait? OR did Saudi Arabia give them permission to use their airspace?
How far does a jet have to fly before they release their missiles ?
My understanding of this strike is that it took out ALL of Iran’s(Russian)air defense systems. Therefore, leaving them open for an attack that could totally destroy ANYTHING the IDF wants to potentially the next time. At least anything reachable with bunker buster bombs.
Same here. Israel has to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities, and it just made that much easier....... and imminent.

They do not have to fly all the way to Iran - it depends on the range of the missiles they carried. and yes.
Israel’s Reprisal Strike Carefully Calculated, Unclear If Jets Ever Flew Over Iran
The operation was a balancing act of risk mitigation and deterrence that aimed to weaken Iran’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

Following that Israeli response, it became clear an air-launched ballistic missiles were used to do so. A booster for one of these weapons, which Israel has an impressive and growing portfolio of, was found in a field in Iraq close to the Iran-Iraq border. TWZ did a breakdown on exactly what was found and its implications you can read **here**. Yesterday we posited that more of these would show up in this area today. These weapons, which include Rocks and Air LORA, allow the IAF to strike deep into another country from great standoff distances and do so with a weapon that hits very hard with high-accuracy and is extremely challenging to intercept.

SO, they flew over Saudi Arabia shot the missiles and then turned around and returned to Israel. Which is why the USAF was going to give them aid if they needed help over the Saudi Arabian desert.
