Dems need to ramp up early voting efforts to match GOP momentum in North Carolina: analyst
Fox News ^ | October 27, 2024 | Aubrie Spady

The Democratic Party needs to get competitive with Republicans in battleground North Carolina to turn out more voters before Election Day, says a former political consultant from the Tar Heel State.

Thomas Mills is publisher and founder of PoliticsNC, a website described as "Analysis, commentary, and opinion of North Carolina and national politics from the perspective of a center-left, 30-year veteran of the campaign battlefield."

Mills, who worked on the direct mail team for the Democratic National Committee in 2004, identified two problems that Democrats need to address, quickly, to compete in the state: early voting and low African American voter turnout.

"They [Republicans] seem to be on the right track right now. Democrats, on the other hand, need to boost their turnout. I mean, what we don't know is how people are voting," Mills told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview. "Some of these Republicans that are going to the polls may not actually be voting for Republicans. So, until we count the votes, we don't know a whole lot."

Mills said that this cycle, Republicans are voting at "levels much higher than they have in the past."

"The big question is, ‘What is driving the GOTV vote this cycle?’ They [Republicans] historically have not put any emphasis in North Carolina on early voting. In fact, in 2020, they actually told Republicans not to vote early, to vote on Election Day," Mill said. "This year, they've taken a different tack. And they're actively telling Republicans to go vote early."

Mills added that Republicans appear to be leading in early voting, which started on Oct. 17, but that until every ballot is counted, the parties won't know whether these early votes represent any new voters.

"Right now, they have more votes than Democrats," he added.

Thanks for that link. I’m hoping for a quick resolution. The eneMedia and other democrat activists have ramped up the vile Hitler/Nazi talk. Their online supporters are very literally exhibiting a frenzied insanity. The hate they are generating will not abate. It will simmer and grow. I seriously fear for attempts on both Trump and Vance, and Thomas, Roberts and Alito.

The crazy mass media talk is to try to help the down-ballot Democrats by getting more lefties to vote.

They know Harris is going down.

Democrats are busy trying to see to it that the Republican Western folks can’t access voting stations.

I think at this point, they're just trying to hold on to the Senate.

Kamala rented out twenty buses to take voters to the polls after his speech today. I wish trump and mega churches would do the same.

Door to door canvassing is a whole new world with all these early voters.

Door Knocker: “I am here to ask you to remember to vote for X”

Person answering Door: “I already voted. Go away.”

Door Knocker: “No you didn’t. I have the list. Nobody at this address has voted.”

Person answering Door: “Oh yeah. We just mailed it in yesterday. They haven’t gotten it yet.”

Door Knocker: “Can I ask who you voted for?”

Person answering Door: “Nope. That is private information. Go away now.”

Lol.

He thinks some Republicans may be voting for Kamala, but apparently it doesn’t occur to him that some Democrats could be voting for Trump?

I think that after President Trump wins in a landslide vote the Dems will suddenly decide that this early voting thing is not such a hot idea and try and go back to voting on election day.

Democrats have always outnumbered Repubs in NC...In 2020 it was by 390k today its down to 113k...Dems have always voted more for the Repubs than Repubs for Dems in NC (unless Independents break for Republicans more in NC than any other state that is)

We need to further ramp up early voting efforts to more than counter any ramping up of theirs.

Foot on the gas and do not let up. No matter what polls or data say, good or bad...up until poll closing.

Vote early *in person*, not by mail. Mail is slow, inefficient...unless you are incapacitated and cannot get out of the house is the only reason to vote by mail.

The GOTV orgs need us to vote early so resources are not wasted on getting us to the polls and they can focus on lazy GOP voters who have not voted and get them there. And it makes the lines shorter for them to not get to the polling places and just say “forget it...I’m not waiting in line 2 hours” and going home.

Democrats have a sizable lead in turnout in PA regarding early voting although it’s not at 2020 levels.

“Republicans that are going to the polls may not actually be voting for Republicans.”

It's in the Handbook, under 'Elections.'

I don’t like that bit of information...the McD’s visit and all of his other events should have excited the Trump supporters to the polls. That stole the show of the whole media...why did that not motivate GOP / Trump voters to be excited to head to the polls?

If the polls are correct, Trump still holds a very healthy double digit lead amongst people who say they will vote on election day.

Pennsylvania voters reminded not to visit polling place until Election Day

Makes sense. You have to request a ballot to be mailed to your home. Otherwise, you'll wait until Election Day to vote in person.

In other states, you can vote in person. In some places, you can do it 20 days before Election Day.

Oh, so no *in person* early voting. That makes sense that Republicans would not do that as in as large of numbers, then.

I would not want my ballot to get “lost in the mail” - either legitimately or by shenanigans.

Have you noticed that when a Dem loses an election, it is NEVER about their policies and proposals being rejected by the voters? It is always about how some minor technical measure needs a tweak.
