Kemi Badenoch has – potentially jokingly – told fellow Conservatives that up to 10% of civil servants are so “bad” they ought to be in prison.
The Tory leadership candidate made the comments during an event with The Spectator at the annual Conservative conference.
According to The Guardian, she said: “I don’t want people to get me wrong – I think that civil servants are like everybody else. They come in to do a job, and I’d say about 10% of them are absolutely magnificent.
“And the trick to being a good minister is to find the good ones quickly, keep them close and try and get the bad ones out of your department.
“There’s about 5 to 10% of them who are very, very bad – you know, should be in prison bad – leaking official secrets, undermining their ministers, agitating - I have some of it in my department – usually union led.
“But most of them actually want to do a good job. And the good ones are very frustrated by the bad ones.”

If he was talking about the US government workforce, especially at the top in DC, the percentages would be much higher. Seemingly most are democrat stooges.
She!
And yes, what’s interesting is people agree with her on it in focus groups
One lady said she was “Bang on [the money]”

Walk into the admin offices of a public school or a city office and ask some questions about where to find something.
You’ll find out pretty quick who is a person and who is a mannequin.
ONLY 10%? She’s way low.
Lucky Britain. Only 1 in 10...
Lucky Britain. Only 1 in 10...
Indeed and at a much higher rate remember D.C. is 92% democrats.
The ten percent number is probably accurate. I worked in state government for 20 years and many of the people I worked with did go to jail. That was only the ones who got caught doing something illegal. I did work with a lot of good people but it’s always the bad ones people see.
I haven’t been paying too much attention to British politics other than knowing that Rishi Sunak was an out of touch clown with no agenda. So Kemi kinda came out of nowhere to me. But from what I read and see, she seems interesting and is saying the right things.
10% is quite low. The typical government civil “servant” does very little that serves the US Citizen in any positive way. To top it off, most have a derisive attitude toward their employers...US Citizens. Many are in positions that are essentially make work.
Sounds naive. I’ve no doubt the number is higher than 10%.
I wouldn’t say most Federal employees do nothing of value for the taxpayer. 70% of the Federal workforce is in defense or security related elements of the Federal government. 36% of all the Federal workforce are civilians in the Department of Defense alone.
