The Chicago Police Department won’t launch recruit classes for at least two months — fueling complaints that Mayor Brandon Johnson is reneging on his promise to exempt public safety agencies from a citywide hiring freeze.
And at an emergency Cabinet meeting Tuesday, Chief Operating Officer John Roberson ordered other department heads to identify personnel cuts — beyond reductions already made — and submit proposals by Friday. The goal: $75 million in additional savings in 2025.
Each department head will be given a specific budget number to reach in what city officials referred to as an “exercise.”
Departments already had been required to cut 3%. But now “they’re saying that doesn’t go far enough. They need to find another $75 million,” said a source at the meeting where Roberson lowered the boom. The source said the mayor’s office expected no support in that effort from unions or City Council members.

Timing is a coincidence, of course.
Snake Plissken 2024!
Finally, a good idea out of Chicongo.
The fact of the matter is no amount of cuts are going to work. The fundamental problem, besides the huge expense of illegal alien criminals, is the public pension funds. In particular the Chicago Teachers Union which owns the government of Chicago.
Without serious reforms, i.e. cuts to the public pensions it’s mathematically impossible for Chicago to get into the black. It’s also an impossibility that there will be any genuine reform to the public sector Pension funds.
The final plan B for Chicago is and always has been Kick the Can down the road and get a massive bailout from the federal government when you can no longer kick it any further

Johnson’s mayoralty will be what’s needed to fix Chicago. Collapse , then rebuild just as we’re in the process of doing with Trump’s return.
Y’ever notice how local governments always cut expenses where it will inflict the most pain on the public, when they should start cuts by examining the highest paid employees and decide which of them are earning their exorbitant salaries. That’s where budget cuts should begin.
Inform the entire city workforce your pay is being reduced 20%
I’d hesitate to call it a “work force”. More likely it is a work farce”. The employees of chicago likely do very little “work”. What little they might accidentally do benefits no one. Mainly, they sit around, sneer at taxpayers and keep refiguring their retirement benefits. What a pathetic joke on any one or any business paying taxes to these entrenched criminals.
Will these cutbacks will include his $30K spending on hair and makeup, and his upcoming trip to the UK to watch Bears game.
