While victims say they have been left scrambling for survival, some critics resurfaced Atkins' March 2023 remarks as they slammed FEMA's priorities.

In the clip, which has racked up over 15 million views since it was shared on X on Sunday, Atkins argued that LGBTQ victims should receive more support because they would have been 'already struggling' before a natural disaster.

Blacks were top priority after Katrina. I lived at ground Zero in Pass Christian, Mississippi. I serviced home bound patients at that time. Every black home I entered was piled high with supplies of every sort. FEMA trailers (temporary housing) were delivered to them first. White folks who lost everything camped on empty slabs for weeks.

I way homeless for over a month myself. Fortunately, my sister’s home in Alabama had no damage. I had a 100 mile commute to care for my patients.

The stories of FEMA incompetence and callous nature in the aftermath of Helene ring true.
