I was stationed at Homestead AFB in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew swept across Dade County (Miami) .. The Eye was dead center on Homestead AFB..
That was, at one time, considered a Cat 5 (winds were at, or more than 200/mph), but then downgraded to Cat 4.. (BS)..)
Andrew wiped our Air Force Base, and the surrounding area.
Enough so that the USA government shut down our AFB, and it turned into a civilian base (link on my FR homepage)..
If I remember correctly, in 1992, to Dade county => Miami, not including the Air Force Base, over $21 Billion in damages. (Not sure how much that would be in today's $$)..
Not looking down on the situation now..
But, let's not forget.......
(got relocated to Intel base that was the worst base of my whole career 😤)

(Even the enlisted, if their barracks was 50 meters (about 54 yards) for the E-Club, they had to call a taxi to get back.. (no BS!).
O-club, a little more lenience...
