From what I’ve read, Routh didn’t fire a shot, so no attempted murder. He hid in bushes, which might or might not be a crime. He apparently is a ‘prohibited person’ in possession of a firearm and he was in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and he has been charged with both of those crimes.

He no doubt wanted to kill President Trump and he took steps to accomplish his goal, but what did he actually do that was illegal?

I cannot believe he traveled from Hawaii to Florida just on the hunch that Trump would be playing golf on that course on that day. He had to be part of something much larger. This isn’t tinfoil hat speculation, it is the only thing that makes sense. The question is, will we ever know the ‘something larger’? Or will Routh have a fatal accident/medical emergency in the next day or so?
