I don’t believe Chicago or IL have gun registration per se, but resident possessing a firearm or wishing to purchase ammunition must have a state-issued FOID card. This law prevents criminals from possessing firearms and is one reason why ‘gun crime’ is so low in the state. It would, no doubt be lower except for the ‘insanely lax gun laws’ in Indiana. /s
