The U.S. Senate race in Montana will almost certainly decide who controls the chamber in 2025. It may also mark the beginning of the end of split-ticket voting in a presidential year, when every election becomes intimately tied to the fight at the top of the ticket.
Since 2006, Montana Sen. Jon Tester, a Democrat, has narrowly survived three Senate races in his solidly Republican state by outperforming Democratic presidential candidates by up to 20 percentage points.
He is attempting to do so again this year by disassociating himself from the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, who trails former President Donald Trump by roughly 20 percentage points in the state, polls show. But it might not be enough.
“I would certainly say that Jon Tester is the most vulnerable Democrat out there in the country,” said Chuck Denowh, a Republican consultant in Montana who worked on the 2020 campaigns of Montana Sen. Steve Daines and Rep. Matt Rosendale. “His strategy is to distance himself, and pretend to be something that he hasn’t been for the last six years, but I think the voters here get it.”

For what that's worth...
Rand Paul will become a chairman 🫡
Come on!
Why the heck do these Democrats keep getting elected in rural red states?
Tom Daschle (SD) Back in the day another example
If Sheehy can buy the seat he needs no help from outside. He’ll then be good for 12 years only like the rest of them.
How in the hell does a damn DemonRAT get elected in Montana? Somebody has to be cheating.
Rand could become chairman of Homeland Security.
That’s not a bad gig
I’m not sure what else. HELP (Health ?) is another option
Could we do a DNA test?
I think this clown may be the late Chris Farley’s daddy.
I went to RealClearPolitics and the most recent poll was a Rasmussen one from about 2 weeks ago that puts Sheehy at 50% and Tester at 43%.
Looks good.
C’mon Montana, Tim Sheehy should be your next Senator.
$$ and the fact that the large town centers are lib havens for Kalifornians and others even though the state is red. Texas overcomes this issue by having a large rural population some other states are not that fortunate.
Read on the Daily Mail the GOP candidate said something about drunk Indians. How serious is this?
Same way that snake Manchin kept getting elected in ruby red West VA. He pretended to be conservative at election time, but then voted with the Democrats on everything once he returned to power.
And voters fell for it time after time after time.
It also did not help that republicans in WV nominated some of the worst candidates to go up against Manchin.
The GOP needs to learn the lesson of KY, another ruby red state that elected a Democrat governor, Beshear, twice. STUPID republican women gushed about how 'hot' Beshear was and voted for him. Unfortunately, looks mean a lot and must be taken into consideration along with ability and loyalty.
Demographically, Montana has long been a retirement state. The average age is older than Florida. That being said, Montanans like to elect Republicans to state office for good local governance but traditionally elect Democrats to Federal office in order to "bring home the bacon." Montana receives vastly more Federal dollars than it pays in.
Actually since statehood, MT has had only a few Republicans elected to the Senate. There are a lot of closeted liberals there.
Why is Kamala only behind by 20 points in Montana? Shouldn’t she be behind by at least 80?
Incumbency is a disease.
Well that was stupid of him.
Live mic too...
“Why the heck do these Democrats keep getting elected in rural red states?”
They play good ol’ boy and then lie about their record. The local media won’t call them out on their records.
I didn’t realize how many stupid Republicans lived in Montana...that apparently don’t understand what the consequences of not having the majority in the upper house means for the party they claim to belong to.
Did these idiots move in from West Virginia?
