Coverage of the wars in Ukraine and Gaza is mostly dominated by talk of weapons. Reporters and analysts focus on suicide drones, on shell deficits, on targeting algorithms. But for all the attention devoted to modern weapons and munitions, both conflicts are proving that modern war still comes down to people....
... Before Covid, fewer than 3 in 10 Americans in the prime recruiting demographic — ages 17 to 24 — were eligible to serve in uniform. Those numbers have shrunk further since the pandemic began. Only 23 percent of young Americans are qualified to enlist without a waiver....
In the all-recruited force, it is military families that have inexorably become the primary providers of new recruits. Nearly 80 percent of recent Army enlistees have a veteran in their family — for almost 30 percent, it’s a parent. In the half-century since the AVF’s birth, the US military has become a family business.
This entrenchment of a “warrior caste” presents a long-term danger to democracy: a citizenry disconnected from its military can become indifferent to the missions it performs....But the immediate danger is more concrete. Should the majority of military families decide the nation is unworthy of their children’s service, as may already be happening, the AVF will become unsustainable....

“Calling all the veterans here mere cannon fodder is degrading to the patriots who have served and to the American nation they served.
The American military has not been used as mere cannon fodder, we have a history of valuing our soldiers lives and using them as sparingly as possible.”
So, Afghanistan and how we pulled out of there was not a waste???

Vietnam??? A total waste of lives and money.

Benghazi, anyone???
More like 70 or 80 billion.
If you think we fight like the Russians and Chinese, North Koreans, and Iranians, who throw men away as cannon fodder and count losses by the millions if they bother to count them at all, then you should eat your sandwich.
We minimize our losses compared to militaries that use their troops as mere cannon fodder.
as far as the left is concern, it’s all going according to plan.
they’ve weakened America and are now doing what they can to shove the dagger deep in her back.
2024 truly is Patriots vs Traitors
+1
Trump inheirted a 10% front line ready, me might get a 1% this time.

Who needs troops? Wars are won by air power alone. Shock and Awe is all that’s needed to take out any enemy! We have the best pilots, planes and air crews in the world. The F-35 can not be beaten. Bombing beat Serbia, wrecked Iraq, and humbled Iran. If a problem is big, send in the B-52s and the war is over. The only army we need is to guard the air bases. The only navy we need , some Tin Cans to keep subs from our super carriers. America is invincible. In a war with Russia, the Red Air Force will be knocked out of the sky in two weeks. There Migs are no match for out F-22s and F-18s. Shock and awe on Moscow will have them running to the UN for peace terms. WW III will last only three months. No need for a draft.
They will have a tough time, but as you can see governments always become more authoritarian as citizens rise up and their grip on power is lost.
It is happening in all our western countries. The EU, US and Canada good examples. The good news? They will lose in the end. We are witnessing the decline of the West.
Oh, sure it will. Just have a look at some of the communist tax proposals being floated around congress.
You are so right. I did 8.5 years. My son did 6. But I pray my grandson never does a minute
Then, they'll call on the Chinese and/or UN to come in and round up the draft dodgers.
If we had to go to war, and the country supported it…the people would be found.
But the country’s leadership has done a pretty good job proving that we have neither the will to completely win a conflict, or define what victory is. Until that changes you will have a difficult time attracting volunteers.
Coming from a family that had ancestors involved in military since before the revolution - it’s my solemn duty to make sure that stops with me.
These foreign adventures - first foisted upon us by the charismatic Teddy Roosevelt - have been the foundational rot of this nation. More than a century of military leadership metastasized by familial dynasties has only strengthened this insane obsession with foreign adventures and domination.
Nope - until they hit the beaches here - I, and mine, will not comply.

America doesn’t have the military leadership since becoming woke while concentrating on DEI instead of readiness.
” Then, they’ll call on the Chinese and/or UN to come in and round up the draft dodgers.”
The ChiComm army and its Tang ping - lying flat - recruits are 10 times worse than our “woke” military. They would “round up” a quiet corner to curl up inside and whimper.

And put hundreds of thousands of 18 years olds in prison?
