Israel's Business Forum joined the Hostage Family Forum call to protest as Israelis blocked junctions around the country. The Histadrut chairman, Arnon Bar David, Israel's main labor organization, called for a total shutdown of the country's economy on Monday starting at 6 a.m., and Israel's airport followed shortly after.
Israelis gathered at junctions and blocked intersections around the country Sunday morning, calling for a hostage deal after reports came out that the bodies of six hostages had been retrieved from Gaza.
Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Ori Danino were alive in captivity for nearly 11 months before being killed in captivity by Hamas soon before IDF forces reached their location, according to an IDF initial assessment.
The Hostage Family Forum called on Israelis to take to the streets and demand a hostage deal now. Protests were planned for Sunday evening at dozens of locations around the country.
The forum also called on local government, union heads, and large companies to shut down Israel's economy Monday as part of a call for a deal and as a sign of unity with the families. Additionally, the forum called on the head of the Histadrut labor federation to call for a general strike.
"The national leadership has abandoned the hostages, and it is the time of social, economic, and local leadership to stand by the hostage families, by the public, and by the values of solidarity and mutual responsibility," said the forum.
The labor federation is considering possible steps and will announce its decision today, Ynet reported.
Opposition head Yair Lapid also called on the labor federation, employers, and local authorities to strike. "They were alive. Netanyahu and the cabinet of death decided not to save them," he said in a call to shut down the economy.

I don’t get it, why are hostage lives so much more important than the lives put at risk by striking a deal with Hamas that will cause another October 10 or worse.
Should one surrender for the sake of a few hostages?
Agreeing with Marxists again, hyh?
It's just partisan anti-Bibi BS.
Hamas gave the hostages the only deal they believe in. And yet, even some Israelis, like some (so-called) Americans want to show their Hamas love.

...Before Oct. 7, rioters demanded the overthrow of Netanyahu’s coalition due to its “anti-democratic” policies and “corruption.” The new rallying cry is to free the hostages...
My $.02 is that Bibi had little choice but to congratulate the vegetable-in-chief on the (stolen) win out of hopes that it (the vegetable) wouldn’t abandon Israel. I think his preference then, and now, was Trump, BUT he had to play the cards he was dealt.
Sorry. Not buyin’ it.
Idiots.
I stated 10/8 that the hostages were all dead, metaphorically or otherwise.
Any exception to that rule - ‘the hamas rule’ - is a blessing.
They never intended to release any of them, unless their miscalculations were an order of magnitude worse...
Playing right into terrorist hands by saying a few lives are worth more than many more in the future. I believe it was Russia that had a policy of considering hostages as dead and not giving further publicity. Seems to me that discourages hostage taking whereas today’s scenario promotes and ensures there will be more hostage taking.
THE LEFT IS A DEATH CULT.
Gen. Sherman was right. “War is hell.” It is, of course, noble to consider innocent lives. But if that’s your first priority in a war, you will lose that war.
Consider the bombing of German munitions factories in WW2. For sure those bombs killed innocents, maybe including children walking to school. Should that bombing have been halted?
Ronald Reagan probably had the best long-term solution. “Peace through strength.”
I hope you’re being a bit sarcastic there. Israel as a nation has done things I disagree with. I suppose that’s for another thread. But Jews do not go around stabbing people. And they have no belief that non-Jews must submit to Torah law or die.
So wait, they want to make a deal with the devil? My thinking is that after virtually a year, you would THINK that there would BE no terrorists left in Gaza at all. Why does it take a whole YEAR to wipe these shit stains on humanity out?
...and unfortunately they have made inroads in Israel as well.
They have their own internal problems, just as this article illustrates.
We’ll never stop others from killing each other. BJ was in charge when Rwanda blew up. There was nothing in it for us. We did well in the 50’s when Europe was in ruins. Bush ‘43 trying to turn Iraq into a democracy was too expensive. Peace in Europe lasted 45 years with US investment in NATO. Worth it? We should stop trying to stop it as we get too far extended.
Tensions build and they sometimes need a volcano-style release. Nothing we can do.
War is like taking a dump guess.
As upsetting as it is that Hamas abducted these people in the first place, these hostages are unfortunately lost to the depravity of the Palestinian culture of violence. Any who survive are fortunate and those that don’t are cause for rage!
That's even worse than just a group of leftists demanding that Bibi make a deal with the devil. The only thing these families will accomplish by dealing with Hamas is ensuring their loved ones died for nothing.
> We’ll never stop others from killing each other. <
True. And as you noted, there’s nothing we can do. A good example is the current Israel/Palestine conflict. There will be temporary truces, peace conferences, etc. But that war will never end…
…unless one side completely annihilates the other. And I don’t even want to think about that.
