Gold Star Families Had Trouble Getting Trump Into Arlington Until House Speaker Intervened
Daily Caller ^ | 8/29/24 | Henry Rogers

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson had to intervene to get former President Donald Trump into Arlington National Cemetery for the third anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal with Gold Star families, a family told the Daily Caller.

The Gold Star families, who lost their children during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, invited Trump to Arlington National Cemetery. He laid a wreath there for the 13 servicemembers who were killed serving their country in Afghanistan. However, a Gold Star family told the Caller that Arlington National Cemetery was trying to make it difficult for the former President to appear for the ceremony to honor their children, something the families requested.

[snip]

Arlington National Cemetery told gold star families that they could only be there for a specific time that did not work for everyone’s schedule and were also told the president could not join them at their children’s gravesites, the family told the Caller.

McCaul immediately reached out to Johnson to ask for his assistance with the matter and the Caller is told he continued to track it until it was fixed.

Fire them, and then exile them to Antarctica. If they stay here they’ll do nothing but cause trouble.

“A massive, deep and wide, termination of the entrenched bureaucracy is in order.”

Totally agree, but the harsh reality is DC is very good at protecting itself. They will rile up their powerful constituencies to bring pressure on Trump to back off. Trust me, they know how to fight back. Not saying he can’t do it, but the reality is it won’t be easy. The administrative state is no pushover.

In this case, it sounds like someone whose charge in this universe was to maintain the organized operations of Arlington, and decided this would be a great opportunity to brag quietly among his/her/it bureaucrat comrades how he obstructed a ceremony because it involved Trump.

It was probably some REMF from Ft. Myer - you know, some General Milley wannabe.

The administrative state is no pushover.

Exactly. With the backing of its Gaslight Media, its power is awesome.

Lots of links...

Family members of the service members killed in the Biden Harris withdrawal from Afghanistan just released a statement backing Trump. This is in response to the FAKE NEWS NPR story blasting President Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

This update to the Trump arlington story has some serious teeth. It appears as if Arlington Cemetery did everything they could to prevent Trump from appearing with Gold Star families. They were not pleased. The Speaker of the House had to call the secretary of the Army to get them to loosen up!

And last, but not least...

The Trump campaign tells Axios it's "weighing options" on whether to release its footage of an altercation with Arlington National Cemetery officials. - DO IT!!

Agree. I don’t think it is possible without reforming the laws.

Even if Trump had a list and fired everyone on day 1, it would be tied up in court for the duration of his presidency.

A more workable solution might be the “Ice Station Zebra” approach where a special organization, with remote locutions around USA , serves as a dumping ground for all the idiots. They get transferred and assigned the task of clocking in and waiting at an empty desk with no authority. Just sit there and collect their checks.

We need drastic cuts to agency budgets. That will end the forever expansion and reduce the power of unelected bureaucrats.

I also like your idea of mass re-assignments. Something that even some Republicans might be able to support without fearing being accused of ‘firings’.

Let’s do both! :)

He may have been the man in NYC, but he was nothing more than a babe in the woods when he hit DC in 2016. He had to trust those around him to do him right, but they set him up for failure. Tried too anyway. This time will be vastly different. He’s gained some allies and has learned to play the game a bit. He’s still green behind the ears when it comes to DC politics, but at least he’ll be able to recognize the train coming down the tracks for what it is this time, and get off the rails, before it hits.

The bureaucrats who run those places are filthy politicians. They couldn’t give a flying fornication about the people buried there.

“They also sent some flunky who had a literal mental health, crying and shaking, meltdown about an authorized photographer taking pictures.”

That meltdown was probably for dramatic effect so that the propaganda media would have something they could broadcast while they attacked Trump. The meltdown will probably be the first thing that Google, etc. shows when anyone does a search.

A president has the power to directly terminate these categories. They serve at the pleasure of the executive\president. US attorneys & Schedule C appointments all gone the first day (Clinton did this!). All “Excepted Service” subject to review then if negative action is merited, i.e. If found to have been involved in partisan political activity, then dismissal. Next way harder because it requires legislation but in some it’s the cleanest and quickest way is with the budget. Cut budgets by 25% particularly aim the cuts at DC area - HQs personnel followed by RIFs. Last in first out, this will clean out many of the Obama era personnel. Next and this also requires legislation re-organize and move sections if not whole agencies outside the DC metropolitan area into CONUS. Further out the better find out who really wants to do the service part of government service. This should reduce personnel levels even further.

A lot of people seem to think presidents are kings and can rule by decree, i.e. EOs. They are not and can not as much as Rats would like that to be true thank God it isn’t. People take Trump and others’ rhetoric on this way to literal. I understand why such things are said, said to set a goal do what can be done directly and work to get done legislatively what needs to be done that way.

Many government agencies need to move out of the DC area and to other parts of the country.

No, they would just infect the rest of the country. Better to just shut them down.

it should scare the hell out of most reasonable and clear thinking people. That’s what socialism is all about.

No doubt, this is scary stuff. We won't have a country if she gets elected.
