The House Appropriations Committee chairman was knocked out of his legislative seat Tuesday in a Republican runoff that saw more than $1 million in campaign contributions.
Challenger Gene Shaw defeated five-time incumbent Kevin Wallace, winning 54% of the vote in the House District 32 election.
Most of the $1 million raised for the runoff election in House District 32 went to Wallace, the House Appropriations and Budget Committee chairman from Wellston. The $780,000 Wallace raised came from other House Republicans plus three senators and the Senate Republicans PAC, as well as Attorney General Gentner Drummond, former Attorney General Mike Hunter and former Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Boren.
Shaw, a Chandler rancher involved in the oil and gas industry, put $275,000 of his own money into taking out one of the Legislature’s most influential figures and raised about $50,000 through other sources. Shaw was endorsed by Gov. Kevin Stitt and the cockfighters’ group Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission.
Two other Tulsa-area incumbents also lost their Republican runoffs. Sen. Blake “Cowboy” Stephens was defeated by Julie McIntosh in Senate District 3, while Rep. Dean Davis lost to Gabe Woolley in a very close race for House District 98.

Politicians are a lot like diapers. They should be changed frequently, and for the same reason.
The fresh ones quickly get soiled.
Backstory?
I get a firewall when I click the article
The area’s hierarchy must be in short supply of the stealer union members?
Still counting and too close to call should have been deployed until help could arrive.
Untrustworthiness is the word of the day with disrespect to herr governtment
“Backstory?”
Many people cheer outcomes like these even though they are clueless about the politicians involved, and they are often wrong. But in this case Wallace == purebred RINO so good riddance.
Davis & Stephens are somewhere in between moderate and conservative based on their voting records.
Of course it remains to be seen how far to the right the victorious challengers will be, regardless of how they may have campaigned.
In safe GOP districts EVERYONE claims to be conservative when they are seeking votes, and these 3 districts range from “pretty damn safe” to “completely safe” under typical circumstances.
Despite claims that Mark Twain made that statement, it was actually a quote from John Wallner, the losing Libertarian candidate for California's 49th congressional district in the 1992 general election.
You left out the smelly part.
...........when “incumbents” lose, I immediately THINK “well, it’s a form of “term limits”............So, hooray for Shaw the Rancher!
Much better than the Fowlgame Commission.
Thanks for the backstory !
How much AIPAC money was in the Wallace race? And who were they backing?
