Vanity- I get a weird, Sanduskyish, overly friendly dad-in-the neighborhood vibe from Walz.

From the article:

“But Republicans appear to be taking issue with the wording of the legislation, which says the products must be available “to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students.”

Some Minnesota Republicans initially tried to limit the initiative to female-assigned and gender-neutral bathrooms, but were unsuccessful. Even the author of that amendment ultimately voted for the final version of the bill, saying his family members “felt like it was an important issue I should support.”

The bill’s inclusive language reflects that not all people who menstruate are women, and not all women get periods, which was important to those who lobbied for the legislation.

“It will make it more comfortable for everyone … then people can use whatever restroom they want without being worried,” Bramwell Lundquist, then 15, told MPR News last year.”

Notice the wording “MUST be available.” Must means it is mandatory, and in ALL RESTROOMS REGULARLY USED BY STUDENTS includes men’s/boys’ restrooms, which is why Lundquist said it wouldn’t matter what bathroom you used under this law. They are ALL REQUIRED to have period products.

Again, I read the article, and I read the law. Your recitation of the law in all caps misquotes the law. The law does not refer to all restrooms, it refers to all menstruating students. Republicans can disagree with the law, and NPR can write an article about the law without giving all the details of the law, but none of that changes the substance of the law.

This is the law in question, found at https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/text.php?number=HF2497&type=bill&version=5&session=ls93&session_year=2023&session_number=0
>>>>>>
“Section 1. [121A.212] ACCESS TO MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS.

A school district or charter school must provide students with access to menstrual products
at no charge. The products must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms
regularly used by students in grades 4 to 12 according to a plan developed by the school
district. For purposes of this section, “menstrual products” means pads, tampons, or other
similar products used in connection with the menstrual cycle.”
>>>>>>>

They must be in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4-12. It purposely doesn’t say just girls’ restrooms or family restrooms. If a restroom is regularly used by students grades 4-12 it has to have these products.

Can’t remember how to post the image but see the tweet by one of the pushers of the bill, celebrating what the bill means: “PERIOD PRODUCTS IN ALL SCHOOL BATHROOMS FOR GRADES 4-12” https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FxZ6UM9WwA4fJPN?format=jpg&name=360x360

Once again you’re fighting over semantics. The meaning of the law is clear but you’re trying to say it means something other than what it says. Give it up already.

Why are you always on the wrong side of both truth and conservatism? As to why I cited NPR, it was because you tend to give credibility to sources that most conservatives don’t, so I thought I would show you that EVEN THE LEFTISTS acknowledge that this is what the law means.

My own opinion is that schools should have at least one family restroom available which is good not only for students whose gender is ambivalent but also for shy students, students with disabilities, and families. At my work I have several transgender men who always use the family restroom, but then so do other employees who are not transgender so it’s no big deal. I wish that the employees would leave that restroom for our customers more often but some of them are uncomfortable using the regular restroom for whatever reason. None of my business.

Yes, I have e read the law and quoted it to you multiple times. And as I have stated multiple times, the law does not reference students who identify as female or boys bathrooms. I notice you omitted the section of the law giving school districts the right to determine which bathrooms to make the products available in. Hence, each district can decide to put the products in some or all bathrooms. If they want to put them in boys bathrooms they can but there is no requirement to do ao, contrary to your post.

Did you read my posts? Where did I say anything about where I think menstrual products should be available in schools? Hint: Nowhere.

I am interpreting the law as it is stated. You are interpreting it to mean students who identify as female and boys bathrooms. Those terms are not in the law. Laws are not enforced according to how people “feel” about them, they are enforced pursuant to the language of the law.

What section says the district can decide which bathrooms?

The part you left out. After the phrase “grades 4 through 12” it continues immediately to say “according to a plan developed by the school district.” It is even in the same sentence yet you omitted it.

I posted the whole thing. Are you talking about “according to a plan developed by the school district”? If so that doesn’t change the requirement that it is required in “,restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4-12”

The meaning is clear even according to npr and the people who pushed to get the bill passed. I don’t know what your problem is.

I posted the whole thing right off of the legislative website.

The plan is as to how to make the products available, not where because the where is mandated in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4-12.

Will the school district use vending machines with the coin operation disabled? Will they leave the products laying out where they could become contaminated? Those ate the things the districts have discretion on.

You didn’t post the whole thing because you omitted the operative language “according to a plan developed by the school district”. Yes the plan is how to make the products available, which plan will be developed by each school district. Part of the plan to be developed by each school district, and the only part of the plan to be developed by each school district that is expressly stated in the law, is that the products “must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 through 12”. The school districts clearly are given discretion as to which restrooms the products are placed in. Who cares how the school district chooses to distribute the products? Do you not think they will determine the best process for their district? Is your concern about the cleanliness of the products or that they might be out on boys bathrooms?

You’re looking for something that is not there so you can get upset about something that is not happening.
